♦ 18-year-old Tevin Lee has been charged with first degree murder in the death of Shamiya Adams. The 11-year-old girl was killed by a stray bullet while at a sleepover in a friends house. The intended targets of the shooting had been invovled in fist fight altercation earlier in the day.
Shamiya was inside a home making s’mores with friends at a sleepover in East Garfield Park Friday night when the bullet came through the open window.
Fatso’s Last Stand in Ukrainian Village held a fundraiser for the family, Mayor Rahm Emanuel stopped by.
♦ Karen Wessel dies a hero. The 47-year-old Arlington Heights woman died while saving 3 boys from Star Lake near Plum Lake in Wisconsin.
Three boys had swum across a narrow channel dividing the main shoreline from a sandbar but became too tired to swim back.

♦ The Best ‘Sexualized” Damn Band In The Land. After a through investigation brought on by a complaint from a parent, The Ohio State University’s band leader John Waters has been fired over allegations the band has a sexualized culture. This gives a whole new meaning to “one time in band camp”
♦ Leah Cuevas, 42, from Brooklyn has been charged with the death of Guyanese immigrant mother of four Chinelle LaToya Thompson. Chinelle LaToya Thompson severed body parts were found in 2 separate counties. Cuevas is currently being held without bail in Suffolk County District Court on Long Island

♦ It is being reported by French officials that bad weather was the likely cause of the Air Algerie crash over Mali.
♦ Germany begins spying on the US, according to reports.

SPORTS

♦ Blake Griffin of the L.A Clippers will NOT in team USA’s FIBA World Cup tournament this summer. USA Today reports that Team USA starts its training camp on Monday in Las Vegas, with the roster of 19 players to be whittled down to 12 in time for the FIBA World Cup tournament in Spain that begins on August 30.
