Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation Review, Swatches

Rimmel Stay Matte

Anyone who reads this blog knows I am an oily skinned person. I am always looking for foundations that promise a bit of mattifying to control my oil. Rimmel claims this foundation will help control shine, is lightweight and oil free. Y’all, Rimmel hit it out of the park with this one!

The packaging for the Stay Matte Foundation is a convenient tube, though my only complaint is this does not have a safety seal. If you unscrew the lid like you would to get to the foundation there is no seal. I did peek in store to try and get a foundation match (only by visual inspection, I did not touch the product at all), but I also made sure that no one had touched the foundation like a tester. I do like the tube it comes in, though. I can easily get out as much or as little foundation as I want. All I want is for the company to put a seal on it, and for a store to carry a tester.

This really does have a lightweight, mousse-like texture. It feels silky, and it spreads nicely over the skin. It dries a tad faster than your average foundation, though not so quick that you can’t blend it out properly. Coverage was actually pretty good. I would say medium to full, thought not buildable. I felt it didn’t look right when you built it up. It covered my acne marks that aren’t too bad, and I only had to spot conceal a couple of darker ones. It did cover them enough, though, that I felt comfortable at times not even bothering to conceal the darker marks.

This actually did help control my oil. I was noticeably less oily, though I felt I got the best oil control when I paired this with the Rimmel Stay Primer (which I will also be reviewing soon). This also lasted me all day, and I was surprised at the end of the day when the only fading seemed to be on my nose (where I happen to be the oiliest, and I have a tendency to touch my nose).

It doesn’t feel odd to the touch, and the only things I have noticed that are a con is that when blended out it seems to go on a tad lighter than how it looks in a heavy swatch. True Ivory should have been a good match for me, but I ended up with True Beige because of it applying a touch lighter. So save your receipts! Also, the shade range is only 8 shades wide. They also stick towards the lighter end of the spectrum, ignoring deep skinned people.

I honestly really love this foundation, and it has been my go to lately. I absolutely would repurchase it. I look forward to seeing how well it controls oil this summer.

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation retails for around $5.99 (which can vary depending on store and location) and can be purchased at drugstores nationwide, as well as from many online retailers.
