If you are ready for the pregnancy belly shots? I am getting ready (just waiting for the belly to pop a little more) to take a couple photos. Of course you don’t have to wait to have the belly to get ideas and know what to do and when. If you need some inspiration Pregnancy Corner shares this awesome post on How to Prepare for Your Maternity Photos. Tricks and tips on what to wear, when to plan to take the photos, props and so much more. Check it out!

Shop Around Before Settling

The most important advice of all when it comes to your maternity photos: choose a reputable photographer whose style you love. There are many different styles out there, so shop around before settling down. Also ask as many questions as you want up front — before putting a deposit down — and peruse their Facebook page, blog or website for pictures from past sessions.

Schedule When You’re 31 to 36 Weeks Pregnant

“I recommend scheduling your shoot between weeks 31 and 36 of your pregnancy,” saysMiss Z Photography. “Your belly will have a lovely full shape, but you won’t be too bloated and uncomfortable, as is often the case in the last few weeks.” She says this time frame will also give you plenty of time to order maternity portraits — and extras, should you need them.

Wear Comfortable Clothes That Show Off Your Bump

Comfort is key when it comes taking a good picture. Even if you’re the most photogenic person in the world, wearing clothes you don’t feel good in will read in your pictures. While you do want to be comfortable, it’s also a good move to wear something that shows off your baby bump. I realize this is a hard line to straddle, but you’ll know your maternity photo outfit(s) when you see it.

Stretchy fabrics that conform to your belly are a great option, as are dresses belted just under your bust.

“A belt just under the bust helps to highlight your smallest point and adds beautiful curves to your figure,” says Itty Bitty Giggles Photography. She also recommends opting for lighter clothes “because it adds to the whole idea of new life, purity and the magical feeling of a new baby.”
