Plain Chicken Oh my goodness… this is one of my favorite appetizer recipes to make. It’s extremely easy, inexpensive and totally delicious. Believe it or not, this tastes a lot like loaded potato skins when it’s fresh from the oven. You cannot stop eating this – hence the name Crack Bread. If you are having a holiday get together or a Super Bowl Party you really should serve this to your guests. Since this is a pull apart bread people will get to see the ooey, gooey melted cheese everytime someone goes back and pulls another piece out.
Ingredients
- 1 unsliced loaf of sourdough bread (round is best)
- 8 oz of shredded Cheddar Cheese
- 1 pkg Ranch dressing mix
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 8 slices of cooked bacon, crumbled
Directions
- Using a sharp knife you are going to cut rows all the way across the bread, about an inch wide. Now cut rows going the other way, an inch wide, to form a grid pattern. Do not cut through the bottom of the bread. We want the bottom to hold all of it together.
- Pour the Ranch mix into the melted butter, mix thoroughly. Spread ‘fingers’ of the bread apart and drizzle the inside with the butter mix. Be generous!
- Sprinkle the cheddar cheese inside all of the cuts. Cover cheese with bacon crumbles.
- Set the loaf on top of a piece of aluminum foil and cover it completely. Place on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 15 mins. at 350 degrees.
- Uncover the top and bake an additional 10 minutes to melt the cheese.
- Watch it disappear…
Variations
There are a ton of variations on Crack Bread. You can really put anything you want in a loaf of bread (with cheese and butter) and it’ll be good. How about using swiss cheese, mushrooms and garlic butter? You could also try butter, cinnamon and icing for a breakfast Crack Bread. Here are a few different takes on this recipe that you may want to try.
