Everyone I know has some piece of furniture from their childhood that is still being used or is in storage waiting to find a good excuse to be pulled out. The thing with furniture from your childhood is that it is sentimental, but chances are, you have outgrown the style. (Let’s hope so, anyway.) The bunk beds my brothers used came with a dresser that one of them still uses to this day. I keep telling him he needs to do repurpose it, but he has no wife forcing him on Saturday trips to Home Depot yet, so there it sits in his bedroom, all ugly and piney. I asked if I could take it off his hands to see what I could do with it, and then he laughed at me because he knows I can’t do crafts. Oh well, it was a nice thought. But just in case you can do crafts, here are 6 dresser upcycles you have to see to get your creative juices flowing!

The dresser envy kicked into high gear when I saw this piece. I’m a novice sewer, but I had no idea there were so many things you could do with fabric! This gal started with some primer and topped that off with high gloss coral. She then covered the dresser with Mod Podge and topped it with her fabric of choice. Lastly, she added a few coats of polycrylic. If you decide to try this: don’t try to shortcut the last step–it’s the key to making your dresser smooth and easily cleanable. Everyone knows wallpaper is made to go on walls, but pre-Pinterest, it’s probably safe to assume most of us were living in the dark ages and assumed it could only go on walls. Wallpaper is so versatile, though. There are many ways you can use it to add some pizzazz to a room, and especially to a dresser. My sister-in-law would love this, and I could see it going fabulously in a guest room. You could also try applying paper to the sides of the dresser for a little extra pizzazz.

The literary geek in me is dying to know who made this and how they did it! I can see a new mama making this for her nursery and using favorite books from her childhood. How about “Goodnight Moon”, “Green Eggs and Ham”, and “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”? The potential cuteness here is killing me.

This is pretty much the classiest thing ever. She repurposed an old dresser into a bench. Yes, some carpentry skills are required, so you’ll need some skillz or you’ll have to bribe the husband or boyfriend with special favors, but the end result will be worth it. I think this would be adorable in a beach cottage.

Ok, I’ll be honest. Wine never lasts long enough around my house to need a special holding place. But if it did, I would totally steal the old dresser wedged into the corner of my in-laws’ garage and force my husband to upcycle it to this. Because… wine.
