How I stay “connected”

Waiting for my tablet to charge so it’s ready for another day.

There was a time when I would quibble about people who seem to be glued to their mobile devices at all times. With the exception of my cellphone which I use to keep in touch with my family, I used to leave all my other devices at home. That is until recently.

I started back to work several weeks ago. Prior to that I was a stay at home/work from home mom. I would do all my blogging during the day and reply to emails as they came into me.

Returning to the work force was a HUGE shock to my system. Suddenly I found myself blogging into the wee hours of the night to catch up on things I should have got done earlier in the day, had I not been at work. I also got far behind on my emails and my “needs replies” folder was bursting at the seams.

There are times we’re not really busy at work. No two days are the same. Some days we can barely catch a breath we are so busy. Other days we literally have nothing to do. There is no way of knowing from day to day what our work day will be like.

On non-busy days I just sit there playing on my cellphone counting all the emails I’ll need to reply to when I get home and thinking about all the blog posts that need to get done.

One day it hit me – bring in my tablet!

I have a laptop but it would be inconvent to have to lug it to work all the time. My tablet is small and portable. It’s perfect for taking to work with me every day. Why I didn’t think of it sooner I’ll never know.

My tablet has Intel inside which helps me to get a lot out of my little tablet. I have an Acer Iconia Tab 8 tablet. It’s a new tablet and probably one of the most affordable on the market.

First and foremost I am able to read and reply to emails. That means when I get home I don’t have to feel overwhelmed by the enormous amount of emails that are waiting for me because most of them I’ve already taken care of.

I can also use my tablet at work to do some work on my blog. I won’t write blog posts, only because I can’t type as well on the tablet as I can my laptop. What I can do is make some tweaks and updates on my blog and approve reader comments.

I feel like I’ve accomplished things using my tablet at work instead of just sitting around thinking about all the work I need to do. I can take care of most of what needs to be done at work when we have nothing to do.

On days I work a double shift and I have an hour and a half lunch break I like to use my tablet to watch Netflix. I can usually watch a movie during that time, then finish up what I didn’t get to see later on in the day. The Intel processor in my tablet ensures that I can watch movies without any lag time. There is nothing worse then trying to watch a movie and have to wait for it to upload several times. I only have 90-minutes for lunch so I don’t have time to spare. If I have to wait 10 minutes for a movie to fully upload it’s not worth watching it.

I’ll admit that I do check social networking sites from my tablet. I like to know what it going on with family and friends on Facebook and Twitter. I also love to check out photos on Instagram.

One of my favorite things to do with my tablet at work is visit Pinterest. I LOVE the crafty ideas and recipes I find there. I’m always finding a new recipe that I want to try out with my family. The crystal clear images that I see are compliments of the Intel processor in my computer. I’ve re-pinned A LOT of content – probably more ideas and recipes then I’ll ever use.

The tablet is small and lightweight. It easily tucks into my purse. It’s portable size makes it ideal for “on-to-go” use.

The Acer Iconia Tab 8 has some nice features including a dual camera (take pictures front or back), touch screen “wake up” and something called “Zero Air Gap” which means air in between the touch screen and LCD module is removed which reduces reflection and provides you with better readability under sunlight.

This is an Android tablet. I’m still trying to get used to Android stuff.

It also has an Intel Atom processor which provides the user with fast and smooth gaming, videos and browsing the Internet. It also helps the tablet have a longer battery life which is great because I often forget to pack the power cord with me and if the battery dies when I’m at work there is nothing I can do. For the most part this tablet lasts me a long time under normal use (less time if I watch movies).

I don’t think I have ever owned a computer or similar device without Intel inside.

This little tablet has come in very handy. I feel more productive when I can work done during “down time” and I love being able to entertain myself on my long lunch break.

If you are in the market for a new tablet check out the Acer Iconia Tab 8. If not there are several other great Intel Tablets on the market.

If you are fan of Intel products you should consider checking out the Intel Advocate Experience. Simply click on the image below.
