Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater in Central Park? This lesser known kid-friendly spot in the city is one of my favorites. Several years ago I happened to stumble upon it while exploring in Central Park, & I took note of it for the future when I had kids. Now James is a year old & I have already taken him three times!
The Marionette Theater is a small, intimate cottage that puts on a few plays each year. The plays are almost entirely done with marionette puppets (which feels like a lost art!), & the staging is charming & sweet.
Pippi! is currently showing & goes through the end of June. There are almost two dozen hand made marionettes in the show, & the costumes are as adorable as the puppets. Your kids will love this outing! It's best to
buy tickets online before you visit as they sometimes sell out. There are several shows each week.
The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater also hosts birthday parties … so dreamy!
