Black Summer

Just because it’s summer, doesn’t mean you have to stop wearing black! As someone who always turns to head-to-toe black (with a dash of red lipstick) when left in a last minute panic of what to wear, and religiously wears dark colours for 3/4ths of the year– I wonder–why stop wearing black at all?

Although I do love myself a good LWD for hot prairie summers (crisp cotton sundress, anyone?), I just can’t help but gravitate towards the allure of a classic black dress, be it a body-con number or a loose, drapey version like this Sigafry dress by Winnipeg designer Lennard Taylor.

I’ve been wearing it quite a lot this past week and I must say I am quite impressed the number of times I’ve been able to reinvent it each time. If there’s anything I want my clothes to be–besides, um, chic–it’s versatile. Thanks to my Geminian tendency to flit from novelty to novelty, I’m more than ecstatic if my clothes can transform from one look to another, whether it’s slipping my head through a different neck/arm hole (this one’s got four!) or belting and draping it any which way.

Here, I’ve belted it at the waist through the armholes for a sliver of side boob, but trust that I can turn this dress from seductive to flying squirrel in under a minute. Watch out for repeat appearances of this brilliant Lennard Taylor frock on the blog; I’ve yet to find an event to which I can swoop into from the trees.
