TEN OF THE BEST EVER CHRISTMAS MOVIES - PROBABLY

Christmas movies - can't beat 'em. There's something magical and heart warming about festive-themed films: they're emotional, uplifting and not a little bit corny, but everyone can forgive a dose of schmaltz at Christmas, right?

When the snow is falling outside, the evenings are dark and the hot chocolate is served there's nothing better than sticking on a cosy Christmas jumper - check out this selection from Morph Costumes - and settling down with the whole family to enjoy a movie. And here are ten of the seasonal best!

Elf (2003)
This Will Ferrell vehicle tells the story of Buddy (Ferrell) who was raised by Santa's elves and heads off to New York City as an adult to find his birth father. As you'd expect from a film with Ferrell in the lead role, there are plenty of
funny moments.

Love Actually (2003)
This 2003 Richard Curtis movie focus on the complicated relationships and love lives of multiple characters. It pushes the notion of 'feel good' to the absolute boundaries but if there isn't at least one scene which doesn't put a smile on your face we'd be surprised. Worth watching just to see Hugh Grant's Prime Minister dancing around No.10 Downing Street.

Nativity (2009)
Primary school teacher Martin Freeman is suddenly thrust into the spotlight when he's put in charge of the nativity performance - which colleagues, parents, pupils and the local media all believe is being filmed by a Hollywood movie producer. Chaos ensues.

It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
Chosen as the No.1 best ever Christmas movie by TotalFilm.com, Frank Capra's tale of redemption is the undoubted classic of the season - the story of a deeply troubled man saved by divine intervention.

Home Alone (1990)
The McCallister family jet off for the holiday - but forget to bring one of their kids along. Thus, Kevin - played by a fresh-faced Macauley Culkin - is left on his own at home, gorging on his favourite food, indulging in TV marathons and fending off burglars. The moment Kevin realises he's been abandoned is priceless.

Die Hard (1988)
A festive movie for the Dad of the house. There's nothing particularly festive about this Bruce Willis blockbuster, which spawned one of the most successful action movie franchises of all time, but it is set at Christmas... during the most violent office party ever. And that's enough.

The Santa Clause (1994)
Malfunctioning Dad Tim Allen inadvertently takes out the big man and finds himself as the replacement, sprouting a huge white beard and experiencing a rapidly expanding waistline. He dons the red suit and is tasked with delivering Santa's presents to the world.

Scrooged (1988)
There have been more than a few film versions of the Charles Dickens novel but this 1988 version is the one which invariably stands out. When Bill Murray's character is confronted by the ghosts of Christmases past, present and future, will they convince him to mend his ruthless ways?

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
Christmas is crazy enough at the best of times for all us - but there's always someone in a greater state of panic. Step forward Clark W Griswold, whose plans for the biggest and best family gathering goes badly wrong, on every level.

Polar Express (2004)
A young boy is invited to ride the Polar Express on Christmas Eve and takes an unforgettable journey to the North Pole on the most magical night of the year. Tom Hanks takes the role of five different characters but real star is the digital animation.
