“Only in the eyes of love you can find infinity.”

― Sorin Cerin

Here’s a project for all the hopeless romantics who want to give a gift of the heart for Valentine’s Day. A handmade gift that’s packed with thought and feeling but that doesn’t cost very much to make and doesn’t take long either.

These etched champagne glasses were inspired by the Infinity X Infinity jewelry collection from Helzberg Diamonds.

The exclusive collection, inspired by ABC’s hit series “Revenge” and lead character Emily Thorne and her father’s mantra, “I love you infinity times infinity,” provides the perfect way to celebrate infinite love for years to come.

Created by award-winning jewelry designer Udi Behr, the collection emphasizes the double infinity insignia, symbolizing infinite love. With a robust collection ranging in price from $49.99 to $1,299, it offers the perfect gift on any budget.

My husband and I are toasting Valentine’s Day and the anniversary of our first date this week. I thought the infinity symbol, combined with a heart, was the perfect way to symbolize and celebrate our everlasting love.

These literally tooks me minutes to make, and they only cost a few dollars since I already had glass etching cream on hand in my craft stash.

I started out by using my Silhouette Cameo cutting machine to make a vinyl stencil. I used the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software to create my own image, combining a heart with two infinity symbols. (There’s a great deal for my readers from Silhouette through Valentine’s Day. Click here for more details.)

If you use a Mac, like I do, just type Option 5 to make the infinity symbol! ∞. (If you’re using a PC, then holding down the ALT key and typing 236 on your number pad should work.)

I used the weld function on my Silhouette software to combine the heart and infinity symbols into one image that I could cut from vinyl. Then, I resized it to fit my champagne glasses.)

  1. Before etching your glass, clean throughly with alcohol and a lint free cloth. Dry glasses throughly.
  2. Apply your vinyl stencil to the glass, securing the edges but being careful not to leave fingerprints on the glass.
  3. Wearing gloves and working in a well ventilated room, apply a thick layer of etching cream to the stencil.
  4. After 1 minute, rinse thoroughly and remove stencil.

That’s it, you’re done. We’re talking a 5-minute craft here, not counting the time it takes to design your stencil. But that was easy, too.

I think some custom etched champagne glasses would be a wonderful shower gift for a bride and groom’s wedding toast. And it’s a keepsake the couple could use every year to celebrate their anniversary.

Or Valentine’s Day.
