DIY : Customize a Basket
Hi my friends, today I'm back with a very easy DIY to customize your baskets.
Bonjour les amis, aujourd'hui je suis de retour avec un DIY très facile pour customiser vos paniers.
When I bought this pretty little African basket, it was entirely in natural color and who knows why I decided to change the color of the handles ... Big mistake! First I painted them in gold but I did not like at all the outcome. To correct my mistake I tried to recover the gold by a darker tint as you can see on the picture above but then second mistake! Not only I was still unsatisfied but also it was impossible "to erase "my mistakes as the basket is made of natural fiber so you can't remove the tint. So I had to find a way to customize my basket (or better to fix what I did ...).
Lorsque j'ai acheté ce joli petit panier africain, il était entièrement de couleur naturelle et qui sait pourquoi j'ai voulu changer la couleur des poignées... Grosse erreur ! Je les ai d'abord peintes en doré et je n'ai pas du tout aimé le résultat. Pour corriger mon erreur j'ai essayé de recouvrir le doré par une teinte foncée comme vous le voyez sur l'image ci-dessus et là deuxième erreur! Non seulement je n'étais toujours pas satisfaite mais en plus impossible "d'effacer" mes bêtises et d'essayer d'enlever la teinte car le panier est en fibre naturelle. J'ai donc dû trouver une solution pour customiser mon panier (ou plutôt pour réparer ce que j'avais fait...).
I simply thought I'd cover the handles of my basket with twine. It is a simple idea, it costs almost nothing and it's easy. In addition, you can choose the color of your choice for the twine as for example a colored twine for a basket in a child's bedroom. And here's how to do ...
J'ai tout simplement pensé à recouvrir les poignées de mon panier avec de la ficelle. C'est une idée tout simple, qui ne coûte quasiment rien et facile à réaliser. En plus, vous pouvez choisir la couleur de votre choix, de la ficelle colorée pour un panier de chambre d'enfant par exemple. Et voici comment faire...
First of all, for the material you will need:
- Twine
- Scissors
- Glue
Tout d'abord, pour le matériel il vous faut simplement :
- De la ficelle
- Des ciseaux
- De la colle
Take the basket you want to customize and glue the twine on the handles. The easiest way is to use a hot glue gun because the twine is pasted instantly. Start at the bottom of the handle doing zigzags then wrapping the twine around the handle.
Prenez le panier que vous voulez customiser et coller de la ficelle sur les poignées. Le plus simple est d'utiliser un pistolet à colle car la ficelle tient instantanément. Commencez par le bas de la poignée en fesant des zig-zags puis en entourant la ficelle tout autour de la poignée.
Do the same thing with the second handle. No need to do it perfectly to keep the taste for craftsmanship of the basket.
Faites la même chose pour la seconde poignée. Nul besoin que le résultat soit parfait pour garder le côté artisanal du panier.
Then I wanted to add a little accessory to this pretty basket so I use the same string to make small tassels to hang on the handles. You simply have to wrap the twine around your hand and then put another a piece of string inside.
J'ai ensuite voulu ajouter un petit accessoire à ce joli panier et j'ai donc utiliser la même ficelle pour faire des petits pompons à accrocher aux poignées. Il suffit tout simplement d'enrouler de la ficelle autour de la main puis d'y faire passer un autre un bout de ficelle.
Make a knot. Then you can use the same twine or another color of your choice. Here I used a very thin black string. Wrap it several times around and tie in a knot.
Faire un noeud. Ensuite, vous pouvez utiliser la même ficelle ou une autre couleur de votre choix. J'ai utilisé ici de la ficelle très fine de couleur noire. Enroulez la plusieurs fois autour puis faire un noeud.
Finally, you only have to cut the bottom of your string. If you want you can ruffle the twine to get bigger tassels.
Enfin, il ne vous reste plus qu'à couper le bas de votre ficelle. Si vous le souhaitez vous pouvez ébouriffer votre ficelle pour avoir des pompons bien gonflés.
And here is my new basket!
