NICOLE SOLIMANO

Brooklyn Craft Camp

Back on October 5th I attended Brooklyn Craft Company's Brooklyn Craft Camp. The brains behind the craft camp is author/crafter herself Brett Bara from the blog Manhattan Craft Room. I first heard about Brooklyn Craft Co. (BCC) while reading a newspaper article back in August, and the article lead me to their website where immediately I signed up for their emails. Low and behold in mid-september I got an email about their second annual craft camp that was coming up in October.

The camp was held in Williamsburg Brooklyn in the basement of an old Lutheran church, which has a history on its own. After a light breakfast snack and a opening speech by Brett we started our classes -we campers were able to choose 4 classes to take through out the day.

In my favorite class of the day Terrariums taught by Brooklyn's own Gönül Yetim of Pink Serissa Terrariums. Like every class in the camp all the materials were provided so all anyone needed was a creative imagination.

In the tassels class taught by Christina Batch-Lee of the jewelry line MissBatch, I was able to make 4 different tassels including a double tassel that was inspired by another camper at my table.

After the two classes we had a break for a yummy lunch, a speech by craft blogger Jenni Radosevivh of I SPY DIY and some mingling to meet new people, get some nail art done, take a photo in the photo booth, make a felt floral broach mini craft with Sara Gold Schadt of the book Pom-Poms! and a chain hair tie with Jenni.

After the lunch break we resumed classes and I started my third class of the day: glass etching. In glass etching I etched my blog name and a city skyline on to 4 glasses. During the class I chatted up a crafting storm with Jenni who was sitting across from me.

In my final class of the day I crafted an embroidered bracelet with sequins in the class taught by Jessica Marquez of the blog Miniature Rhino and author of Stitched Gifts. While I will a little bit out of sewing practice I managed to get my bracelet done.

When all the classes were over a cocktail hour was served and exchanged some emails with new friends and grabbed a photo in the photo booth with my new friend Valerie. Also during the cocktail hour they had a give away and I won three crafting books!

If you wanna join Brooklyn Craft Company for the next camp, sign up here for their emails and I will see you there!
