Almost every town has a Main Street, whether its actually named that or its the main thoroughfare. My "Main Street" is like no other, it names a location, it's a street name and describes that the street is a major roadway. Growing up, if you were going to any vicinity of downtown Flushing, you said you were going to "Main Street"and didn't matter even if you were never going to be on Main Street. Besides it just being a street name, its a destination. I really grew up on Main Street, I've been introduced to so many cultures and I've experienced so many things with working and passing through "Main Street."
Full of Korean-Chinese shops of all sorts from restaurants to bakeries, florists, tea shops, housewares, food markets, electronic shops and clothing stores. We have 2 malls, a Macy's, 7 different banks, a modern library, subway station and a historic church. For entertainment you can hit up one of the karaoke joints, every February the Chinese throw a parade to celebrate Chinese New Year -with dragons - and less than a mile down the road there is Citi Field where the Mets play. But food is what a person really needs to experience when they come to "Main Street". Like I said before the main culture in downtown Flushing is Korean-Chinese. So you can find dumplings, Korean pancakes, Hot Pot, Bubble Tea, Peeking Duck, Noodle Soup, but there is also Vietnamese food, Indian food, Spanish food, pizza and even places where Vegans grab a bite.
There is so much more to "Main Street," not enough could be said about it. But if you ever visit the city, and want to see a real Chinatown, take the 7 train to the last stop and experience Main Street for yourself. I promise you will enjoy it.
