An outfit for 'London Edge'

This weekend I headed over to London Edge, the industry trade show for alternative clothing and shoes. My modelling agency Ugly Models were there sponsoring the event and scouting for strange new faces, so I thought I'd pop in and see what bonkers-mad-freaky-unique-pissyourpants-wicked traders were showing. To be honest though, I was a little disappointed. It seems that these days, the word 'alternative' only seems to encompass stereotypical goth/emo/rockabilly/burlesque clothing and nothing seemed especially original. There was red and black lace in abundance, old skool tattoo imagery at every turn and polka dotted 1950's prom dresses adorned every buxomed woman! It's a shame that today, even within supposedly underground subcultures, people dubbed as 'alternative' actually seem to be clone copies of one another.
I did comes across a couple of little gems however:
Charles of London:
This company offer any of their pieces in any of their handmade fabrics - so you can have a Bowie inspired Jacket with Frankenstein leggings or vice versa, guaranteeing that you won't look exactly the same as your mate! Kudos to their lovely saleswoman who seemed really passionate about the product and was uber friendly too! I'll certainly be saving my pennies.
Bantum:
You can't ask for more than a cheeky sense of humour and the brave use of big colour in a tee shirt and Bantum definitely give you both by the technicoloured bucket full! As part of design collective 'Hard Nottz Life' Bantum produce cartoony, candy coloured clothing that gives the middle finger to Beige and other crappy slogan tees! You might have seen some of their designs sported on the X Factor by MK1's Charlie, but if any of you dare say that I look like her I'll give you a round house kick to the goolies faster than you can say 'butch bisexual'! (my little brother has already been there and felt my wrath, so be warned)

So that's that, altogether a bit of a disappointing trade show, but nice to catch up with the guys at 'Ugly Models' and meet a couple of designers worthy of my blog space!
Not long till London Fashion Week and more wankaliscious fashion jive, so come back soon....
Kind Regards
