Day in the Life // September

Day in the Life // September

Last year I played along with Ali Edward’s Day in the Life monthly and it was one of my favorite projects ever. This year, I’m repeating the project. On the 15th of each month, I’m going to document my everyday life. I like having a set day because I won’t worry about finding a “representative” or “normal” day. Wherever the 15th falls, that’s what I’ll document.

Here’s Monday, September 15:

It was Jake’s turn to wake up earlier with Eliza, but he fell back asleep after waking up and she basically got herself ready. She just let us know when the bus got here. I hung out with Jake while he got ready for work and told him about my weird long dream. Then I drank coffee and read a bit until Jonas woke up, because that bit of quiet in between Eliza and Jake leaving and Jonas waking up is awesome, when it happens. I’m currently blazing my way through the The Divergent Series, so I opted for reading that rather than using the time to actually work.

After Jonas woke up we snuggled a bit, had breakfast, and worked on cleaning up his room. Then he played games on the Nintendo 64 while I finished up some work, including yesterday’s blog post because I’m running behind.

Next, out for errands. We were going to go to the park, but it started raining. We had lunch at Panda Express, picked up groceries and flowers at Trader Joe’s, and picked up Jonas’s friend from his pre-school.

Jonas and his friend had fun playing outside, wrecking the house, and playing with Legos. I alternated between playing with them, cleaning a bit, and reading.

Jonas and I read a big stack of books on the front porch while waiting for Eliza to get home. We enjoyed the September air so very much. The kids had yogurt as a snack outside, Eliza worked with Jonas on his ABCs, then they headed inside to do homework. Jonas likes to “homework” while Eliza does, which is usually a combination pre-school workbooks, art projects, and playing with educational games. They did all of that in the box fort while I read a few more chapters outside.

More homework and cleaning and playing. I set Jonas up with a movie while I started to make chicken and noodles for dinner. When Jake got home, he watched an episode of last week’s The Daily Show, replaced some lightbulbs in the kitchen, then rolled out the homemade noodles and finished up dinner. We all ate together (the kids barely ate and everyone was grouchy), then Jake ran to our neighborhood grocery store to rent Divergent, because I wanted to talk to him about it and he’s not big on reading. The kids and I started cleaning up after dinner, and when Jake got back he read books to Jonas before bed and Eliza finished up the last of her homework and headed off to sleep too.

Jake and I watched most of Divergent before I needed to head to the airport to pick up Paul. I blasted sing along music on the way there, read while waiting for Paul to find his bags, and then talked to him about his trip on the way back. Paul spent the night, but it was late when we got back so Jake and I finshed the last 20 minutes of Divergent and went to bed a bit after midnight.
