Project Life 2014 | July 20-26

I love documenting my life with weekly Project Life spreads! At the end of each month, I batch edit and order the previous month’s photos and then work on spreads in batches. This week, I’m sharing a spread from the end of July.

July 20-26

I didn’t have any of the bright, deep green I was looking for in my kits, so I mixed cards from Studio Calico Project Life kits with Capture 6×6 paper pad for this spread.

Going on here: Brunch, my birthday, watching my niece Ava, the kids building with Lincoln logs, Jake power washing the house, the kids night scootering, and me playing a whole lot of Final Fantasy VII.

Tip: If I can’t get a group shot, I like to take multiples to make sure everyone is represented. That’s why you’ll see a lot of photos of two of us at a time at brunch (though Jonas photo bombed Eliza and I this time).

Tip: Sometimes I find a hard balance between cool patterns that bring in the colors I want in the layout and room for words. This is especially the case when I use 6×6 journaling pads–there isn’t a lot of paper with room for words in those. I get the best of both worlds by mixing a patterned paper background with a cropped down journaling card, grid card, or white card.

Tip: Fancy up your plainer cards with a strip of washi tape and a small centered embellishment. Both of these are from Freckled Fawn Oh Deer Me kits.

Tip: I love putting a circular embellishment where the points meet in a collage, but it is a great place for a label too if you need room for more color and journaling!

Going on here: Hedgie, Lily in box fort heaven, Science City, Eliza helping with Jonas’s pre-school lessons, and much needed waffles with Leslie Knope inspired photos (oh, the joy).

Tip: To include stills from videos, I take screen shots with my phone.

Tip: Get small embellishments on in a straight line by cutting the clear backing around the embellishments you’d like to use and adhering that to the layout rather than the embellishments themselves. I’d never be able to replicated the nice and neat spread from the packaging otherwise!

Tip: For photo shy animals, turn the sound off on your phone, sneak up, wait very still, and start clicking away when the animal returns to business as usual. To get photos of our hedgehog I hover my phone in her cage until she decides it’s not scary anymore. I can’t get photos of her face when we’re holding her because she moves around or burrows into our arms and she’s scared of the shutter on the big camera, so this is the only way I’ve found that works!

Supplies: Basic Grey Capture 6×6 paper pad, Studio Calico Project Life kit, Oh Deer Me kit embellishments, Project Life journaling pens, Design A page protectors, Design M page protectors from this variety pack, Project Life corner rounder.
