Week in the Life | Monday| Eliza

This week I’m participating in Ali Edward’s Week in the Life. You can read about my plan for this year and how I’ve tackled this project in the past here.

I love this project of documenting our routines in-depth with photos and words. I actually started documenting Sunday, but I’ll just be sharing that once it is in the books. For Monday-Thursday, I’m focusing on one of us per day. Monday was all about Eliza.

She slept on the couch because we got home so late after watching the World Series game at Jake’s parents’ Sunday night and she didn’t want to walk up the stairs.

I woke her up gently (Jake and I take turns sleeping in) and grabbed her a uniform, and after that she gets ready on her own. She made herself cereal and brushed her hair. (I helped a bit with that part. Important to note: we kept losing the brush, so we tied it to the banister with a string. Hah!) Usually we’re running late and mornings are rushed, but this morning was chill with plenty of time… she even got a bit of reading in.

We realized right before the bus came that it was picture day and she didn’t need a uniform. I ran upstairs and grabbed her a different shirt just in time.

Eliza leaves around 7:20 and gets home a bit after 4:00. I interviewed her and wrote down things about her school day to fill in the gap.

Eliza’s friend got off of the bus with her and they played for a bit after school, mostly building with Lego (it’s their favorite thing to do together).

Then she started in on chores. Her main thing is emptying the dishwasher.

Then homework. There was a lot less than usual today. She opted to take a nap when she was done because she didn’t get enough sleep the night before. When she got back from her cat nap, she helped clean up a bit before our friends came over for dinner. Then she read some Shel Silverstein to me while I was cooking.

Dinner with our friends was a little hectic: 3/4 of the kids were super wild after we were done eating. Eliza was upset that her friends and brother messed up her room (though honestly it just looked like your average post-Eliza tornado to me). She read to calm down. I didn’t get many pictures from this part of the evening, but the one crazy blurry one I have says it all.

After everyone went home, Eliza hung out with Jake, talking about their days, and then she showed me a project she brought home from school and told me all about it.

We started on Gathering Blue by Lois Lowrey, and Eliza begged for another chapter. Not this time!

She read a whole Junie B. Jones book before bed. She came down while Jake and I were watching Doctor Who a few times to ask for word definitions (“tussle” and “gesture”), brought it down to me and recommended that I read it too when she’d finished, and then fell asleep while reading another book.

So very Eliza.
