Week in the Life | Wednesday | Jake

Week in the Life | Wednesday | Jake

This week I’m participating in Ali Edward’s Week in the Life. You can read about my plan for this year and how I’ve tackled this project in the past here. For Monday-Thursday, I’m focusing on one of us per day. Wednesday was all about Jake.

Wednesday was Jake’s birthday, so he took the day off of work. He slept in with Jonas (who swapped from his bed to Jake’s and mine as I was waking Eliza up).

We all got ready and then hit the town. Jonas used his toy drill as a magic ray to turn Jake into a turtle, so Jake hid is face in his jacket and walked to the car sllllooooooowwwwwwlllllyyyy.

We went out for brunch because breakfast food is our favorite food.

Jake wanted a lazy day, so we went home and vegged out. He fixed my corner punch, watched some funny videos on his iPad, did a tiny bit of coding, and researched prices for parts for the quad-copter he wants to build / is obsessed with.

Then there was some rough housing, which left us laughing so hard we were crying.

Poppy stopped by to bring Jake a card and hang out with us a bit. We had a good time visiting with him for a few hours. (Though he did bring the news that our second car is dead.) It was an early release day for Eliza, so towards the end of the visit, things were chaos with her and Jonas playing, crafting, and running around.

There was some more lazing about and playing. We watched an episode of The Flash. He calmed me down when I got super stressed out and overwhelmed at my to-do list.

Then we all headed to JoAnn so I could grab fabric for Halloween costumes. Jonas ended up falling asleep in the car, so only I went in, which means that basically the whole family just chauffeured me on an errand. Jake and Eliza played the charades-like game Heads Up on his phone in the car while they waited. One of her words was “pole dancing” (!!!) and Jake had no idea as he watched her “basically act out a fireman musical.” I’ll have to steal evidence of that off of his phone later.

We got home just in time for Game 7 of the World Series. Paul came over to watch, and I made Caribbean Jerk burritos because it’s Jake’s favorite. We watched the game during dinner.

We’ve been pretty into the games, even though we don’t usually watch sports. The whole city has been excited and energized–the Royals hadn’t been to the World Series since before we were born.

We snuck in singing and brownies during a commercial break. The Lego brick looking candles melted bottom up into the hot brownies. Ooops!

The kids stayed up late for the end of the game and everyone was on the edge of their seats in the bottom of the ninth. (Except me. I was behind the camera.)

And the moment we lost, captured.

We sent the kids off to bed, watched an episode of Orange is the New Black with Paul before he went home, Jake watched an episode of 3rd Rock from the Sun while I took a bath, and then we snuggled up for bed..

A totally slow day, but life’s been crazy lately, so Jake wanted a molasses birthday. We’re celebrating for real Saturday at his parents’ (it’s his older brother’s birthday too!)
