Adventures In Art Journaling

Recently I’ve taken on yet another hobby. Art journaling is a great way to relax and let your creativity go wherever it wants. It’s less about the outcome (it doesn’t have to be neat or pretty) and more about the process. I’ve lost hours just modge-podging and painting pages, and filling them with my favorite photos and quotes. I’m new at this, so my journal is not as pretty as I’d like it to be, but as I learn and experiment with new techniques, I know it will improve.

There are so many techniques and materials you can use, like embroidering right onto your pages or photos, using colored pencils, art markers, stamps, or pretty much anything you can think of. I love that it’s not for anyone, or anything. It’s just about letting my mind wander to a creative space that’s safe to explore and make mistakes. Art journaling can be very therapeutic! I bought some adhesive back 8×10 canvases and created some mini abstract paintings that I can just stick right into my journal.

Once I get better at this, (and plan some vacations) I plan to make a mini travel art journal where I can document my favorite moments of any trips I may take. Even if it’s just a day trip to a winery, these are things I want to remember, and art journaling can be a great way to document the good times! Have you tried art journaling?
