KBShimmer 2014 Early Summer Collection Selected Swatches and Review

press samples

Good morning! If you’re in the US, you probably have the day off. On Memorial Day we remember the men and women who have died while serving our country – an important thing to do! Many also spend the day honoring their lost loved ones and enjoying their families. That’s what I’m doing today. I hope you’re able to do the same!

I must warn you…I’m ridiculously gushing over every single polish in this post. KBShimmer did something a little different with their press samples this time. We were able to pick which ones we wanted to review instead of all or none. The entire Early Summer Collection (original press release here) is amazing (KBShimmer collections always are!), but since a half dozen polishes are about my max right now with my crazy day job and other nail deadlines…I decided to pick my six absolute favorites. So you see, my opinion was a bit biased on these from the start. :)

First up is Right as Reign. It’s a killer, deep indigo purple. It’s a creme, but has a jelly-like smoothness about it. I love it. My swatch is three coats.

I wore Too Pop to Handle out after I swatched it and my jaw dropped every time it caught my eye! It’s described as a textured polish. Before topcoat, it dries to a semi-matte finish and the dense glitter is what gives it the rough finish. Personally, I much prefer it with topcoat. The shine brings out the magenta, pink, and violet glitters from the fuchsia/neon purple jelly base. This is two coats of polish followed by two coats of topcoat.

Let’s Not Coral was my Mother’s Day mani. I wore this with a cobalt blue outfit and it was perfect. The soft, pinky coral has a perfectly smooth creme base. This is two easy coats.

Next up is Stark Raven Mad, a deep, dark charcoal (practically black) holo. The holo is really fine, but I was surprised by how rainbow-y it is in low light. Unfortunately, my photo doesn’t do it justice. This swatch is two coats.

She Twerks Out is another texture. Again, I preferred it with topcoat (two coats). The base is a bright aqua blue filled with fine and medium holo glitters in teal, lime green, aqua and violet. This is crazy pretty in person. My camera is confused with all this sparkliness.

And my last pick was Low and Be Bold, a beautiful, bright but deep, squishy blue. It has a jellyish finish which I love (KBShimmer calls it a “near creme”). There was a little VNL with two coats, so I used three. This was the last color I swatched before going to bed one night (without a base coat…eeeck!). To my surprise and relief, there was zero staining when I took it off!

All swatches were finished with KBShimmer Clearly on Top topcoat. The entire KBShimmer 2014 Early Summer Collection is available now at kbshimmer.com. (KBShimmer bottle shots below.) Let’s Not Coral, Low and Be Bold and Right as Reign (the first three in the pic) are $7.50 and the rest are $8.75.
