Fighting Acne with illuMask Anti-Acne Light Therapy Mask {Review}
As I’ve mentioned, I seem to be having issues with acne lately, something I thought was a thing of the past! It’s clear a visit to the dermatologist is in order so I can figure out what is going on with my skin, but in the meantime I’m not opposed to trying out new products. I recently tried the AcneFree Advanced Deep Cleansing Duo system and fortunately also had the chance to try another skin care product through my participation in the Walmart Moms program, the illuMask Anti-Acne Light Therapy Mask. illuMask Anti-Acne Light Therapy Mask Review
The illuMask Anti-Acne Light Therapy Mask is cleared by the FDA and uses blue and red light wavelengths to treat acne-causing bacteria and inflammation for 30 days. The mask does not emit damaging UV lights and is meant to be used by those with mild to moderate acne, not severe acne. Sold for $29.97 in Walmart stores and Walmart.com, the illuMask Anti-Acne Light Therapy Mask comes with the mask and a controller that keeps track of your 30 daily treatments.
Each illuMask Anti-Acne Light Therapy Mask treatment lasts just 15 minutes. So, you can easily sit back and relax with your mask on either before or after taking a bath at night and make it a part of your me-time routine. (You may look a little weird in the process to your family members since the mask has been described by my husband as “creepy looking” on more than one occasion, but they’ll likely get used to it, or at the very least will leave you alone to enjoy your 15 minutes of beauty time!) The mask fits comfortably on your face, using glasses to sit on your nose. It also has an eye-slit, so you could watch TV or read while wearing the mask if you choose to. I was not bothered by the lights nor did I ever feel any discomfort after each treatment was done. Did I mention how easy it is to use the mask too? You literally just put it on, press the button on the controller to turn it on, then the mask shuts off automatically once the 15 minutes are up. After all 30 treatments are completed, the mask will no longer work, which means you’re paying less than $1 per treatment! (I do wish you could refill the mask somehow or install new batteries to continue using it rather than need to purchase a whole new mask, though.)
As for the effectiveness of the mask on my acne, I can’t say for sure how it worked for me since I am continuing to have breakouts. Perhaps I am one of those people that is having borderline severe acne at the moment and that is a reason why it didn’t work too well for me? Also, I was unable to complete all 30 treatments before writing this review due to a family emergency we had that interrupted our routine and had me leave town, so that could also be a contributing factor. I am still hopeful that once I finish all 30 treatments my skin will show improvement, because I have heard wonderful things from other users of the mask.
