‘Tis the season to be jolly…

The Christmas tree is up! We did it right on the first day of Advent.

And just yesterday we got a few more of those wooden and metal rustic-looking ornaments to hang on the tree. I love the idea of getting a few interesting, individual ornaments each year – even better if we can have one special one to mark the year. Last year I made one to mark our first Christmas as a husband and wife. This year we have another remarkable thing happening (which I don’t want to mention yet) but I don’t know what ornament I shall do / get to represent that. Oh we also have some silver bell ornaments from the office (last year we had some snowflake ones)… I so love the thought of collecting all these ornaments year after year!

At times like this I wish I live in Europe, particularly in a German town famous for its Christmas market like Rothenburg. Everything seems so magical. It’s the place where all those things you read in story books come to live. People really do live like that! The old buildings, the traditional homes, the small cobblestone pathways, and everything under a thick layer of powdery snow.

I bet I can find plenty of lovely ornaments to hang on my tree in the Christmas market!

Speaking of ornaments, I just recently found out that people traditionally decorated their trees with edible things! Fruits, nuts, breads, cakes… and of course on a real pine tree… the house must’ve smelled amazing. These days we burn candles with scents of pine tree, spices, etc to bring out the Christmas atmosphere. But it really isn’t the same is it?

I’m still thinking about a side rack to place beside the piano so we can have a permanent storage space for our choir scores (which currently sit on top of the piano bench – two very heavy boxes plus many files). But that means we have to shift the piano, albeit slightly, and then call a tuner to fix it. Well it’s about time the piano gets tuned anyway. The point is if we have this side rack, I can use the top surface for a seasonal decoration space… a nativity scene with scented candles for Christmas, or to place birthday cards, etc.

I’m also thinking about doing digital photo albums. Or even printing our wedding photo albums for our parents (yes still not done after so long now). So many personal projects to do but I’m stuck in the office day after day. Boo! Not that I hate my work, but sometimes I wish I don’t have to work so I can be a complete home maker. I love thinking and doing things to spruce up the home, make it feels like home. Hahahaha.

So… I’m kind of dreading tomorrow because that’s our first day of caroling… with two choirs!! It’ll be a whole day affair from early morning till late night. We’ll be singing for two hospitals and a home for the aged, as well as for a private party at someone’s home. We will have to rush after we’re done caroling with one choir to go to the next one. And I hope I don’t get too exhausted tomorrow. But first we have to go to one last choir practice tonight – which means I can’t even have an early night. Oh well… We’ll see how it goes.

Then at work there’ll be some renovation work going on in the office, moving of work spaces, my goodness so many things happening in December. I can’t wait till Christmas Day when we can get a bit of a breather during the quiet week between Christmas and New Year. Please just let me get there faster.

In the meantime I shall dream some more about white Christmas in Europe…
