Special Occasions Call For Special Dresses: Lovers & Friends LA + Valentino

Yesterday I attended an annual awards show for my industry. It’s like the grammy, but for the multi-family industry in Minnesota. It’s a HUGE event – with close to a thousand attendees each year. It’s one of my favorite events of the year as I LOVE seeing all my fabulous work friends and colleagues all in one place. Special occasions call for special dresses! I chose to wear this ensemble:

This year, the event creeped up on me so fast. For special events, I typically spend weeks obsessing over what to wear, try on literally DOZENS of dresses, narrow it down to 2 and then I make a decision on the day of the event. This year was different. I’ve been working so much I didn’t get a chance to go shopping – can you believe it? But, I didn’t stress out over it at all, as I knew I had several dresses in my closet that would work great. And 2 hours before the event, I was still leisurely looking through my closet when my eyes fell on this skirt and the Valentino top was already sitting on the top of my dresser, and I KNEW – this is IT!

This is actually NOT a dress. It’s actually a Lovers & Friends LA skirt a simple yet elegant, Valentino top. I LOVE this skirt. I’ve worn it before here in a more casual outfit, while this pairing is much dressier, and I LOVE it!

This skirt is the star of this show. The slits are thigh high, but no worries – there’s actually a built in pair of shorts underneath – they’ve thought of everything! So you’ll never be “indecent” or have one of THOSE kinds of “wardrobe malfunctions!” It fits great, its slimming, and it FLOWS just so beautifully when I walk – I get so many compliments about how it flows!

And the DEETS!

This beautiful necklace makes quite a statement, doesn’t it? It’s a St. John piece that my mom sent me as a gift a few months back – this was the first opportunity that I’ve had to wear such a fancy statement! It’s got great pearls, smaller dark & light Swarovski crystals, a chunky chain, some ribbon and a HUBE swarovski crystal the size of Texas. Perfect mix of feminine and masculine details! I LOVE this necklace!

I added a simple, plain black belt to anchor the outfit and define/separate the top from the skirt. Then a simple Target black clutch and my signature arm full of bracelets, mixing new pieces like my St. John hinged bracelet (another gift from my mom!) mixed with vintage pearl necklace worn as a bracelet and a simple domed onyx ring.

And of course, these lovely shoes – my favorite Manolo Blahnik’s, give the outfit the right amount of Daisy-esque attitude.

What I’m Wearing:

Top: Valentino

Skirt: Lovers & Friends LA

Watch: Michele

Shoes: Manolo Blahnik

Bag: Target

Accessories: Necklace – St. John, hinged bracelet – St. John, pearl necklace worn as bracelet – vintage, black onyx dome ring.

I enjoy awards events, as its a great time to see everyone at their best, being publicly appreciated in front of their peers, for a job well done. It’s a special occasion to celebrate, and I LOVE it each year. The friends I have met in the multi-family industry have become life-long friends and the treasures in my life. I was too busy catching up with everyone to take enough pictures, but here are a few of those special ladies!

She’s wearing one of the most gorgeous Chanel necklaces I have seen in a long time. GORG!

I LOVE the multi-family industry. It’s an industry where strong, powerful women succeed at all levels, including the top tiers where men usually dominate. These two are not only beautiful, they are great example of strong, determined, successful, powerful women!

Powerhouse!

These two not only make it easy to look like a rockstar, they are leaders in their field and I LOVE calling them my friends!

She makes me laugh like until my GUT hurts EVERY time we get together, and sometimes, she makes me laugh with a txt message. I <3 that about her!

Come clients of mine that won awards yesterday! Smiles all around!

I wished I took the time to snap more pictures of everyone. It’s such a HUGE event, and to try to talk to a lifetime of friends and colleagues in the span of a few hours is HARD! I vow to do better with the pics next time!

OH, but I did manage to snap a picture of the man that makes my heart pitter-patter!

Another reason I LOVE the Multi-housing industry I’m in – I met hubby at work-once-upon-a-time when we used to work at the same company, something like EONS ago. Now we both own our own businesses in this great industry. We work on different ends of the industry, but we still have so much in common, so we always have TONS to talk about especially since we understand each other’s work! He doesn’t like to take pictures, so this is a rare moment caught on camera! I HEART this man!

Special occasions call for special dresses!

XOXO
