Quilt Progress

While I realize that I just wrote last week about wanting to start a new quilt, I obviously became obsessed. The fabric arrived last week and I got to work FAST! As you remember, I decided to do a simple patchwork because I didn’t want to sew curves or do anything so difficult again. For a long while. So cutting and sewing a whole bunch of squares…done and done.

After cutting the squares, I started to design the layout. Of course, this happens:

Ted’s all “my propertay.” I swear, as soon as I lay one square down, Ted comes sniffing around. MIND YOUR OWN BEESWAX, TED!

I layed out and then sewed all the squares together – so easy that I was sure I was doing something wrong. But since I was really just winging the entire thing, I hadn’t really decided on the size of the quilt. For some reason, in the end, I decided to make it queen sized. When I envisioned it initially, it was going to be for the couch, but now…I don’t know. Maybe Ryan and I will just have to start sleeping on the couch to make use of this slice of gorgeousness. Regardless, when I layed it out, I had to get the sizing right so that I could add the correct amount of sashing (the border around the design). This meant that I ended up having to add more rows of squares. No biggie. I’ll just lay the quilt down and start figuring out how many I need:

Ralph looks like a beached whale. And while I’d love to just leave on the floor while I sew at the table, I can’t because Ted is from the land of Barfur. And if he barfed on this, I don’t know what I do. No amount of his adorable little box face would save him.

So, blah, blah, blah, I got everything figured out and started sewing the additional rows only to later realize that I was sewing them to the wrong side of the quilt (eye roll). So I added MORE rows to the other side thinking it was no big deal. And then I remembered I was going to be hand quilting the grey linen squares:

Ay yi yi. I just added about 20 more squares of hand quilting. This isn’t going to be quite as easy peasy as I thought. And it BETTER look good. Oh, and don’t judge that my corners aren’t lined up perfectly. I never said I was perfect, guys.

Anyway, true to form, I realized that I didn’t buy NEARLY enough fabric and had literally nothing left for the back. I ordered more and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. I cannot wait to start this hand quilting!!!
