Cat Cave

So, this past week has been filled with things and projects and stuff. One of the major projects I wanted to do was make a felted cat cave. You see, I saw this:

I knew it must be mine. It’s a cat cave from an Etsy seller Agnes Felt. I saw it and remembered that I always wanted to try to felt one of these things. I’d gone so far as to look up some tutorials, but never got around to it. This time, I was bound and determined.

To play it safe, I bought an extremely detailed pattern from another Etsy seller, Felting Tutorials.

I knew that this was a lot more detailed than the cave I wanted to make (I didn’t really want the “my cat is a hobbit” feel), but it seemed so awesome that I just went for it. I was in NO MOOD to mess around. So off I went on the hunt for the perfect felt.

The first time I made it (yes, you read that correctly – I made it more than once), I wasn’t too crazy about the felt color so I immediately knew I was going to make it again. I also wanted to make it larger the second time around because Ralph is so big. I bought DOUBLE the amount of roving wool and made it at least one and a half times bigger.

Now let me say that felting is not a task for the faint of heart. It takes a LONG TIME and is a pretty good workout. But I finished it. A second time. All the while dealing with this:

But I think Ralph really, really likes it.

Ummmm…little brat. Long story short, buy the ones on Etsy. You’ll save the time and money and won’t end up with a sad sack of nothing like I did. (Even though I really, really, really want to try it again because I don’t like knowing that a felted cat cave has beaten me).
