D-31 and Acting

I’m pretty sure I have the worst luck when it comes to directing musicals at April. Last summer, the boy who was to play the witch and Oz fell sick and never showed up for the performance. That led to Juliet Teacher playing the witch and me playing the Wizard of Oz. Seriously… a children’s musical with a teacher playing the main role…. MMM HMM.

Well anyways, it is now winter intensives and it seems that history has decided to repeat itself. One of my students’ parents decided to plan a vacation starting Friday morning (the show is Friday night). Shove your kid in my class for 3 weeks, have him mess up all my dance routines, demand that he play the part he wanted, oh but don’t worry, he won’t be at the show. MMM HMM. So with a little creative re-casting, I am somehow now taking on the role of Marley Ghost and Belle’s husband. -________________- MMM HMM.

Try directing a musical when you have to star in it yourself. Besides that, things are going great. Well, not really. I threw my back out Saturday night from sneezing. It’s a total repeat of what happened in the 7th grade. It’s not as severe this time and I was only truly unable to move Saturday night. The only thing I can’t do without crying in pain is bend over and sit up straight. My day at work was spent leaning on desks and sitting on the edges of chairs.

Only 4 more days to get through before winter vacation!
