Holidays To Come

It’s getting chillier here in the R.O.K. Halloween preparations are under way at POLY. My school usually puts on a big haunted house/Halloween celebration each year. It’s actually one of the main reasons why I signed on as a teacher haha. I’m all about creating positive memories for these kids. Yes, we are “just another after-school activity” to them. But hey, while we’re at it, we should do a good job and give them something to remember. I was somehow signed up to be the assistant for the one of the rooms in the haunted house. I have this idea… it’s going to take some work, but I think it’ll be fun.

We’ve also started our Christmas concert preparations. I really wanted to do Snow Miser but I had a hard time making a nice back-track for the kids to sing along to. So my two final choices are:

I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

Holly Jolly Christmas

I’ve already choreographed “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.” It’s 98% done and I only have about 2-3 small parts to work out. As for Holly Jolly Christmas, we’re still working on the lyrics. But hey, we’re ahead of the recommended schedule timeline!

Aside from work-related business, life in Korea has been pretty decent. I’ve been eating more Korean food lately. As in, I’ll actually “want” to eat it versus just settling for it. Here are some of the foods I’ve been into lately:

닭갈비 – I call this “Cook the Chicken.” I always do an add-on of udon and cheese-filled 떡.

참치김치볶음밥 – I’m not a fish person but canned tuna mixed with kimchi fried rice is the love of my life.

왕만두 – I’ve only recently been into this. It reminds me of banh bao – a similar steamed bun in Vietnamese food. The only thing missing is the boiled egg inside. But it is literally the perfect breakfast/snack.

비빔밥 – I especially love eating this at the meat restaurants. They usually serve it with a side of bulgolgi pork.
