TO MARKET :: 220 ELM

For years now I’ve been attending High Point Market (what we like to call fashion week for furniture) and I’m sure many of you have seen me post my recaps on the blog before. Well, last time around, I finally spent some time in 220Elm – a building that houses showrooms that overall offer some really beautiful, modern exhibitors – many of them international.

Now that market is just around the corner again (April 5-10th!) I thought I’d share some of my favorite pieces from the exhibitors at 220Elm and encourage those of you attending the show to head over!

Two things that I took away from this tour, and market in general last October, were the use of orange and yellow, which we’re already seeing a lot of for spring, wouldn’t you say? This desk from TemaHome, in the showroom that they also share with Design9.

Their showroom had quite a few fun finds, including this cork table, dining chair (love the channeling detail), and a great glass and wood architectural coffee table that I really dug.

Moving on to the Italians …

The San Giacomo pieces are some of my favorite for their fun lacquered colors, and sleek modern designs. I would happily put one of their consoles in my home any day. Really gorgeous pieces. They also share space in the Leif Pedersen showroom with Saba Italia, where I promptly wanted to steal this chair.

Modern, playful, comfy, leather… I mean, really it’s the best of all worlds, if this type of design is your thing. And I think it just became my thing.

Next we popped into Domaitalia, where I kind of died over these bar stools …

Don’t they look just like champagne corks? If I had a champagne bar, I’d be all up in these. Someone please use these in their next restaurant design. There were a lot of other great modern wood pieces in this showroom too, including the dining chair.

If I had to play favorites, however, Huppe would be on the top of the list.

And not just because they make some of the most fantastic closet organization ever. The selection of wood and lacquer finishes on all their products is perfection. Plus they have a beautiful attention to detail, as evidenced in the bed frame below…

The photos I took in their space don’t really do the product line justice. They’re out of Canada, and amazing – check them out!

And finally – Younger Furniture will greet you at the entrance to 220Elm and is worth a little pop-in. There is definitely a retro vibe to their upholstery, and certainly no lack of color!

My favorite part of market is checking out showrooms that upon first glance may not be exactly my aesthetic – I think we all know that I don’t tend to skew super modern – but if you have an appreciation for aesthetic, you can always find at least one or two pieces that appeal to your design senses, and 220Elm was full of those type of pieces for me, and a few surprises too! I will definitely be heading back there in October to see what’s new. If you find yourself there in April, please let me know what new favorites you find!
