ROOM OF THE WEEK 4.10

Since moving into my loft, I’ve been consuming inspiration for open plan living like crazy. It’s such a different form of decorating.

Granted, my little urban oasis is nowhere close to being as grand as this converted barn in Malibu belonging to cinematographer Darius Wolski and his wife Rebecca – who happens to be a set stylist…

Their living area is actually multiple areas – with plenty of room to spare, as you can see. I love that they kept the upper floor open to below too, with little nooks that look back down into the kitchen, living room and dining areas…

What a dream it must be to entertain guests here! I love how the space feels very well put together, and yet very collected from over the years. And, while I normally don’t love this neutral of a palette, there is something very soothing about it. I think it would be far too much dark grey for a home here in Seattle, but in sunny LA, a space like this would be a welcome oasis on hot summer days.

I have a feeling if this were my home, this little nook would be one of my favorite spots to perch. The decor in this home is some of the most consistent I’ve seen – the combination of hide rugs, raw woods and baskets, layers of linen textiles, and plenty of well placed art is the theme throughout.

To see the entire home, visit photographer Martin Lof’s site, and read the article at Elle Decoration.
