May We Never Forget

Israeli Auschwitz survivor.
Behind a barbed wire Star of David, a holocaust survivor looks on.
Gas chambers at Auschwitz.
Piles of glasses, shoes, suitcases, and hair of those dehumanized by the Nazis.
Anne Frank is the face of the Holocaust and if it weren't for her diary, it would never have opened my eyes to the horrific and inspirational tales of other victims and survivors in what might be the darkest point of the 20th century.
May we never forget those who resisted...
Irena Sendler saved 2500 children, if you remember my sister did a guest post last year on her bravery.

And Irena Gut Opdyke, she smuggled Jews into the woods to save them as well and hid 12 Jews in the cellar of her residence. In 1982, she was recognized and honored by Yad Vashem. After the war she immigrated to the United States where she published her memoires, In My Hands: Memories of a Holocaust Rescuer.

Shoah, the Hebrew word for 'calamity' was the word used for what we now refer to as The Holocaust. It wasn't until the 1970's miniseries that the term Holocaust was used for the atrocities against those in Europe.
May we never forget. Because when we do, we are certain to relive it.
