A Thank You Give Away

So, back in this entry, I asked for some of your insights in battling the "blahs".
God knows creative people tend to get a little sad & need an encouragement every now & then.

Your responses were awesome.

My blogger friend, Jean, emailed me an earlier suggestion too.
(I read each & every e-mail & comment you send, by the way, and they all brighten my day).

I was so sparked by her idea that I asked her if I could share. She said yes.
Here it is:

Jenny – I love your blog; I check it every single day to see if you have a new post up. I especially enjoy your creative videos; such fun! I would leave this comment there, but I don’t have any of the Internet identities that would allow me to do so.

I want to share some thoughts with you about your new studio vs. the kitchen table, which I think might be related to your having the journaling blahs.

Like you, I set up a shiny, new studio – and then I never felt like working in there. Why? Because my table faced the wall, and sitting there felt like going to prison. Just me and my journal, alone with my thoughts, facing the wall without much visual input to distract me, ready to do my art with absolutely no interruptions…AAUGH! Get me out of here!

I found that I did much, much better when I turned my table around and put one side against the wall so I could sit facing the door. Now I could chat with my husband as he passed by, and suddenly I could breathe again. The pressure was off.

Another thing that helped was getting a bigger table on which to spread out my art supplies. I had a small desk like yours and it was frustrating, because I need to see the vast cornucopia of supplies available to me in order to create. J Trading up my small table for a 3 X 4 foot IKEA table really helped. Now I have plenty of room to spread out and get messy.

And I also created an art tote full of supplies – I used a garden tote – so if I’m feeling a little lonely, I can go downstairs and take over my husband’s desk while he watches football or some such. I find that I do some of my best work with life all around me.

Anyway, these are just my thoughts on why your studio might not be working for you. I love your artwork, and I think you are very talented. Keep on painting! I’m an old gal (60s) and it still never fails to thrill me to create something new.

Take Care,

Jean

How helpful and thoughtful was that? I immediately moved my desk to the window. The change in scenery worked wonders. I felt much more alive.

As a thank you, I am sending her a copy of my Love Bird print. And since you guys are all encouraging and uplifting. I would like to give away a Thank You to you as well. I will be giving away a signed 5x7 print of my Love Birds to 3 readers.
