DIY Phone Book Wreath

Hi friends! Happy Earth Day! That’s right, it’s April 22nd and amid the Spring holidays we have one that I always enjoy celebrating from a craft perspective. Why? Because I think it is such a unique challenge to craft from recycled goods. And that’s just what today’s project is all about! Last year I was invited by Earth911 to create something new from an old phone book. Do you remember those things? Do you still receive them? We opt out since we’re all about the smart phone, but there are plenty out there these days and plenty of ways to reuse them! My idea was to repurpose the pages of the phone book into a unique and playful wreath! And today I’m going to walk you through how to make your very own DIY Phone Book Wreath!

Now I know unless you have an eclectic style you may not be whipping up your own phone book wreath. BUT really this how-to could apply to any paper, even the pages of a book which just might look elegantly shabby chic!

What you’ll need:

• Phone book or book
• Wire hanger
• Scissors
• Ribbon

And the steps:

1. Simply tear pages out of the phone book for easy cutting.
2. Cut the pages into similar sized squares until you have a good sized stack.
3. Shape a regular wire hanger into a loop with a hook at the top for hanging.
4. Poke one end of the wire hanger through each piece of paper (you can do a few layers at a time) until your hanger is full.
5. Twist wire hanger at the top.
6. Shape the wreath and add bow for an extra touch!

And voila! You have a FUN DIY Phone Book Wreath made completely out of recycled materials. Ok, well I did add a burlap ribbon. But technically I used that on another project previously so technically it’s recycled too!

What do you think?! I know when I first told folks about the wreath the DIY Phone Book Wreath, they didn’t picture something quite as cute as this. I always love to surprise!
