EPIC Room Flip: Teen Boy’s Bedroom Makeover Sneak Peek

EPIC Room Flip: Teen Boy’s Bedroom Makeover Sneak Peek

Remember that bedroom makeover I was working on?

If not, you can catch-up on why I’m calling it EPIC and how we flipped Austin’s room (find that story here) and my home decor and craft storage room. (you can view that completed project here)

Jessica at Mom4Real and I are actually both working to create cool new rooms for our teen boys and we are partnering with 55 Downing Street to do it! She has a much different space to work in, I’m looking forward to seeing how the room is shaping up over there.

While I’ve been busy getting Austin’s new bedroom finished so I can share the final reveal, there have been other projects going on as well. Nothing like doing 5 things at once right? I’m on track though and we are getting close!!

His room is coming along well and we could not be more pleased with everything we’ve ordered from 55 Downing Street. Austin and I actually ordered everything together. I sort of guided him to the correct departments, but he selected everything for his room himself. I was very proud of how he thought about what he needed for his room to make it more functional and comfortable first, with “cool factor” coming in afterwards.

His top item? A new bed. He selected this chocolate brown platform bed. It’s on sale right now for $300 and change with free shipping. The photo is nice… but it’s way better in person. It’s sturdy, well made, has a rich color and faux leather that looks pretty dang good for $300 bucks!

Hillsdale Harbortown Brown Bed

I would say he picked well! Jim and I put this together in about 45 minutes. Austin was doing homework, so we let him slide on helping, but I bet he could have done it alone. Simple, straightforward and clear directions. That was refreshing!

I hopped right on it the minute we were done. It is dreamy. I would totally have this in my room.

I advertised his box spring and bed frame on a local buy/sell site and they were both snapped up quick. Those are great by the way, we have been giving tons of stuff away using it and I like that you find someone who needs what you have and it feels nice to help out. Just be careful you don’t buy stuff… oops. Too late. (more on that later)

Storage was next. We deleted everything but his mattress from the old room. We both liked this cool, two tired shelf with the industrial casters!

It’s awesome in person. Not sure how the puppy statuary ties in with this? But we overlooked that and ordered it anyway. hehe. The measurements make it a perfect fit!!

Lots of books make this next item a no brainer as an accessory choice that has function and flair.

Cool Gear Bookend Set

This was Austin’s “cool” purchase. He saw this and dug it right off the bat. I did too.

Industrial Cage Edison Bulb Rust Metal Table Lamp

I must say, I’ve been particularly impressed with the packaging on everything we have received and how well everything has traveled. Each item has arrived in pristine condition. I was leary about the Edison Bulbs coming with broken filaments. Nope. Perfect. Totally refreshing.

I would not hesitate to order from this site again. They also have frequent sales and the discounted prices are often up to 65% off! Just click here to visit and shop 55 Downing Street . The price ranges vary greatly so peek around a bit.

Just in case you wondered, yes, we also added some junky-thrifted finds to Austin’s new room!

You knew we would right? Gotta keep the balance.

When talk of a new room began Austin only asked for one thing and that was a set of lockers for his room. I was looking… but with no luck.

Facebook to the rescue. A friend saw these come up on a local store page and tagged me in the photo. Jim and I were there first thing the next day. We got them at this really cool antique mall, and picked up another treasure or 3 while we were there too. Austin was in charge of power washing and cleaning of these very vintage beauties. He did a killer job and we had a sunny day to let them air dry. We got lucky!

Done:

  • Room painted
  • New Blinds Installed
  • All 55 Downing Orders Rec. and Assembled
  • Lockers In Room
  • All the little extras put away in their new home. (way to go Austin!)

To Do:

  • Find or Make Wall Art
  • Install Extra Light Fixture
  • Hang Mirror(s)
  • Decide On Coordinating Accent Color For Odd Wall Section?

Oh! And to paint the tv armoire. You know me though… deciding on a color. So it’ll be about 2015 then. Kidding… just kidding

As ALWAYS! Thank you for stopping by!!
