Thai massage benefits body’s systems

You’ve probably heard of Thai massage, but do you know what it is? Do you know what it does for the body? Its health benefits? If now what follows will help enlighten you, particularly regarding the ways that Thai yoga benefits the body’s many crucial systems.

First the basics. Thai massage consists of stretching of and varied pressure on muscles in order to achieve relaxation and health. Wearing loose-fitting clothing, the massage’s recipient will be manipulated bodily by the massage therapist into and out of and back into yoga-like poses, releasing muscle tension and leading the client into a deep deep relaxation. In addition ,the massage therapist will apply pressure to the client’s energy lines, or Sen lines, in order to eliminate blockage and release any toxins that could

lead to pain or illness. The Thai massage session also incorporates martial arts moves, gentle stretching, and breath work. Taken together, these techniques are intended to not only stretch the muscles into more flexible states but also to improve circulation and boost the immune system. It is intended to create balance in the body and in its systems, since when the body’s systems are not stretched and stimulated, they can stagnate.

In short, Thai Massage aids the body’s key systems: skeletal, circulatory, muscular and nervous.

The Skeletal System: Walking upright puts tons of pressure on the spine, and Thai Massage helps to relieve this pressure. Thai Massage incorporates six movements the spine is designed to perform: left and right rotation, left and right lateral flexion, and flexion and extension. The ability of the spine to perform these movements is increased through the gentle manipulation included in Thai Massage. This manipulation leads to great spine flexibility and strength for those muscles that support the spine.

The Circulatory System: The compression included in Thai Massage assists the heart in moving blood through the body. In the same way, the stretching of the extremities helps stimulate blood circulation since the movement will help move the blood and strengthen the veins and arteries.

The Muscular System: Stretching and compression help to release muscle tension leading to greater muscle mobility. These activities, as stated, increase blood flow, and increased blood flow helps lead to greater flexibility. Greater flexibility helps injury prevention and leads to long term muscle health.

The Nervous System: The nervous system has two components: the autonomic nervous system and the somatic nervous system. The autonomic regulates our involuntary action. So, it is that part of the nervous system that causes you to instinctively brace your arm to protect your body during a fall. The somatic nervous system, likewise, regulates sensation and movement. In yoga class, you use your somatic nervous system to move your body into various poses. Further breaking the system down, the autonomic nervous system is made up of the parasympathetic system which calms the body and the sympathetic nervous system which spurs the body into action. Thai Yoga Massage stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system in order to encourage relaxation.
