Saying no

Wondering where my Alt recaps are? Well, I have possibly the weirdest realization you can get from a blogging conference.

I need to say no to blogging.

Before you close the window and remove me from your Feedly, hear me out — saying no is not what you think it is.

Being at Alt just reaffirmed what I’ve known for a long time — that there are just so many things you can do, and it’s impossible to do all of them at once. Focus is the answer.

I love how Hilary Rushford approaches the do-it-all overwhelm — there’s a season for everything. Saying no doesn’t have to mean forever — it just means right now.

And right now, my season is not about blogging.

It’s not that I’m not inspired to blog — I actually have so many ideas I don’t know what to do with them all! It’s about time and priorities. Though I could easily write 3-4 posts a week, that’s time, energy, and creativity that I need to be spending doing other things right now for my business. I admire all the bloggers out there who can maintain a 5-day-a-week posting schedule, churn out ebooks, release ecourses, and write exclusive content for their email subscribers. But that’s just not me. I do much better work — and I’m much happier — when I focus my time in just a few areas rather than several.

So this season is about doing the things I’ve been saying I’m going to do but have put off in favor of publishing posts. I’ll still pop in here from time to time with a few announcements, and on those days when the blog posts write themselves. But I’m giving myself permission not to write on a regular schedule for a little while and come back to that later. That’s one of the things I love most about blogging — it’s always changing, and it’s ok to experiment.

In the meantime, if you aren’t already subscribed to my email list, that’s where I’ll be writing weekly — you can sign up in the box below. And I’m always active on Twitter — I’ll be making more of an effort to share helpful blog posts I come across there.

And if you’re looking for Alt recaps, here are a few I loved:
