La Farola, Upper Street

In between all the beauty shenanigans I do like to do a fair few non beauty bits and bobs – one of the main ones being eating. Unfortunately for my waistline/pre-wedding slim down plan… but yay for my tastebuds. One of the latest culinary adventures was to La Farola, Upper Street – our local area and one of my absolute favourite areas in London.

La Farola is a new tapas place on Upper Street and it feels like a little taste of Spain. The food isn’t just your typical patatas bravas and chorizo though, it all seems to have a little bit of a fancy twist – with some really fancy presentation and a big dose of atmosphere.

We went to La Farola on a Friday night (hence the ‘Happy Friday t-shirt I’m wearing – from boohoo.com) and it was pretty packed – it’s only a small place with a mix of table sizes, with a larger communal style table in the middle and a couple of seats at the bar too. So we nabbed a pair of seats on the table in the middle and got to checking out the menu…

The menu does look pretty classic on first glance, but it’s when the order comes that it has that special touch that makes it feel a bit fancier than the regular tapas place. We ordered a selection including Calamari, Chorizo Iberico (delicious…not shown), some fish (I can’t recall the exact name – might have been red snapper), a mushroom dish and of course the patatas bravas… basically a fairly typical selection, and boy was it delicious. All washed down with a cool glass of white and surrounded by Spanish music and the buzz of the other diners. It did feel like a little taste of holiday.

The pinnacle of the dinner though? The Churros for desert – the churros themselves were delish, but the real winner was the sauce – a chocolate orange bowl of heaven. Absolutely delicious, very rich and I would advise sharing this (Ollie decided he wanted one to himself and ended up eating half of mine too -as it was so tasty, but so rich), That sauce though, so good.

La Farola is a welcome addition to Upper Street in my opinion – whilst it’s certainly not the first tapas place, it’s definitely the stand out of the few I’ve been to in the area and one that would be great for a relaxed birthday dinner or just an impromptu meal out. The only word of warning being that it does get busy – so might be worth looking to book if you have your heart set on eating there!

I’ll definitely be going back!
