Clarins Summer 2014

I can’t believe I haven’t blogged about this Clarins prettiness sooner. I am a sucker for a Clarins Summer Collection – always created so they look almost too pretty to use. In wearable shades and often with just the right mix of the safe neutrals and enough of a colour pop that you can wear if feeling a bit braver on a warm Summer night. This collection ticks all of those boxes – with a gorgeous shadow palette of neutrals and a bright blue statement shade. Plus a gorgeous bronzing compact that mixes a blend of terracotta shades to create a wash of warm colour on the skin.

The best thing about the shadows is that they can be used wet or dry (swatched above dry) but if used wet can create a much more intense effect – especially with the stronger shades of the blue, dark brown and orange. Which is great as it means the pigment can be adapted to the look you want – something subtle with a wash of colour, use them dry. Something intense – use them wet. Easy! Technically the blue is described as a liner by the way rather than shadow – but I don’t think anyone will tell you off if you decide to go for it as shadow instead. Although used wet as a pop of bright cobalt blue liner it will look stunning.

The bronzer also manages to hit that tricky middle ground between orange and muddy to deliver a true flattering bronze. Because it’s so large, the only thing to be careful of is ‘over swirling’ and applying so you maybe go a bit heavy. Just take it easy, build the colour slowly to create your perfect level of bronzing goodness.

As always, the embossing, design and packaging is what makes these Clarins beauties a real stand out collection.
