Topshop Cheek Jelly

A couple of months ago (where is this year going?!) I popped to the Autumn/Winter preview of Topshop Beauty. Along with the new foundation/face range (primers, foundations & concealers) there’s also a new range of ‘cheek jelly’ shades, each with a matching nail colour to compliment it. I now have a little sample of the orange shade of jelly and nail to take a peek at. This is the Topshop Cheek Jelly in the shade Phenomenon and the nail colour in Genius.

The packing is typically cool Topshop – just a simple shallow plastic pot (good, as deep pots can be a pain to stick your fingers in as they get more empty) plus the nail colours with black lids with a gloss/matt polka dot pattern as opposed to the normal black/white one. The plastic feels light, but not cheap & flimsy. The range overall includes five shades of jelly and matching nails – with the colours ranging from deep berry, to hot pink to this orange one. All very Autumn/Winter friendly with the orange and the bright pink being good for a year round flush & pop of colour.

Swatch wise, the Topshop Cheek Jelly is as you would likely expect – quite sheer and one that will deliver a wash of colour not a strong pigment. You can of course layer and build the colour up if you want a stronger look but the idea is more of a subtle glow of colour rather than bright and obvious. More like you have flushed cheeks from a walk on a cold windy beach rather than painted on. The nail colour is where you can get the brighter shade – a cream formula that looks great and glossy after just two coats. Orange isn’t a colour that I often lean towards nail wise, but as a fan of orange-red shades this can work really nicely for something a bit brighter. Combine with a grey & denim outfit and the pop of colour would look nice and fun but not too crazy.

The Topshop Cheek Jelly & nails * launches in October and will be available from Topshop (Cheek Jelly £7, nails £5 – there will also be lip shades to compliment the shades too)
