Bobbi Brown Smokey Nudes Collection

Ah Bobbi Brown, you have gosh darn gone and done it again?! I’m starting to wonder if they have some sort of bizarre Matrix-esque thing going on where they crawl into my head and create things based on my exact taste. Ok, so maybe it is just a brand that’s known for it’s neutrals and I love a neutral…but still, these are pretty darn gorgeous if you’re a neutral lover like me. The collection centres around the palette – which has a lovely smokey effect lid to it (as does the shimmer brick. Then there are four creamy matte lip shades (three shown here). All are limited editions – so move fast if you need to add these to your collection.

The three lip shades I have here are Soft Nude, Warm Nude and Nude (Pink Nude is not shown) and as you guessed, these are all variations on the nude family. Obviously. But each shade is a bit warmer/cooler etc than the other so you can select the best match for your skin tone. My personal fave shade wise of these three is Soft Nude – slightly warmer for me. They are creamy, but definitely veer towards the matte side of things. Whilst I love the shades, my eternally dry lips do struggle with these a bit. So make sure you load up on balm.

Then there’s the palette – which is the star product from the collection really. With eight shades, a mix of matte and shimmer shades ranging from pale shimmering highlights to darker matte shades for a proper smoke. The design is a snazzy pull out compact so you can see all shades when opened fully, or tuck them away. It also has a decent mirror- always handy if using for travel. I’ve swatched each of the shades below and pleased to say the pigment is a bit stronger than some of the other palettes from Bobbi over a couple of past collections which have been more on the sheer side. I’d personally usually rather have a pigmented shadow I can go carefully with and layer up rather than a sheer shadow I have to spend an age building up so it shows enough. The pigment and shades of these are just lovely – with the easiest way of looking at them is the top four are perfect for day and the bottom four great for night. Although of course there are no rules – mix them up as you wish.

At the top of the post I have swatched the Shimmer Brick too -in the shade Sandstone. This reminded me how much I love these, a Shimmer Brick was one of my first ever high-end beauty products and whilst back when I was a teen I think they were much more glittery than they are now I still loved it. Hey, I was a teen – load me up on glitter (I used to use glitter hair spray on my walls to add sparkle… my parents must have been delighted…). But now I’m not so much into the glitter – much prefer a glow and whilst you would go easy on this as the sheen can be fairly frosty. It’s definitely more shimmer than sparkle. You can choose one shade or blend them all together – I’d always be more of a blend them all sort of girl myself.

What do you think of this collection? Does is speak to your neutral loving addict or are you over the whole ‘neutrals’ thing?
