Four: Winter Hand Creams

I’ve banged on and on about my various ongoing beauty ‘issues’ so you’re probably already familiar with the fact I pretty much constantly have dry hands. In fact, as I type this the urge to apply a good slathering of hand cream yet again is strong. They’re what I like to refer to as ‘old lady hands’, which is absolutely zero to do with my age but everything to do with the fact that since I was a kid I’ve had pretty bad dry skin on them and they have always looked ‘older’ than they are. This used to bother me more than it does now but that doesn’t mean I’m not always on the look out for something to help improve both the look and feel of my hands – even just a little. So with that in mind I bring you four winter hand creams that I’ve been trialling lately and my thoughts.

Hand Chemistry 24% * - This is the ‘upgrade’ on the original Hand Chemistry formula with a higher percentage of the ‘active complex’. When I tried the original I was expecting big things but wasn’t blown away as much as I had hoped I would be. But this, that’s a whole different story – this stuff is excellent. If you have dry hands but don’t want something too heavy or anything that leaves a greasy feeling film on the skin. Then this is for you – mega hydrating but still really light and super quick to absorb. This is my current desk hand-cream, so the one of these I reach for most often.

E45 Intense Recovery Hand Cream * - This is when things get really bad, it’s intense stuff but feels surprisingly light. But it is a quick fix it’s one to reach for. Or as an overnight option – nice and intense so really does a job but leaves skin feeling immediately soothed. I like to slather this one on and leave overnight with some cotton hand gloves over the top.

Antipodes Jubilation Hand & Body * - A nice double whammy option if you like to avoid multiple products and want one for hands and body all in one. This stuff smells dreamy too – it’s got a really sweet but fresh scent to it. Hard to put my finger on on sniffing alone, but on a quick google it says it’s wild blackcurrant. Gorgeous stuff. This is great for travel too as doubles up – perfect if you’re heading away over the next week or so for Christmas or in general for weekends away.

The Scottish Fine Soaps Company Sea Kelp Hand & Nail Cream * - One for if you have dry hands & cuticles but want something that smells lovely to use. This is one I’ve been keeping in the bathroom so when friends come over they’re welcome to reach for it too. It has a sea-side sort of scent to it. Fresh, a little like a cheaper version of the whole Jo Malone Sage & Sea Salt fragrance range… (the scent isn’t exactly the same but has a similar feel).
