Wardrobe Remix: DIY Jeweled Holiday Headband

I'm so happy to be back for another guest post on how to remix your wardrobe, getting the most wear out of everyday items in your closet. This tutorial is on how to craft a beautiful jeweled headband out of old beaded jewellery in your collection. With the holidays coming up, and the many parties and celebrations that come along with them, a large beaded headband is the perfect statement piece to make any outfit a little more festive - and why not make you own easily and inexpensively? Read on for complete details and photos on how to craft your own DIY jeweled headband.

What you will need:

  • A wide brimmed headband (you may have one of these lying around in your collection, but if not they can be inexpensively purchase at any drugstore, dollar store or even the craft store.
  • A large handful of beads. I found all of these beads from unravelling old necklaces and bracelets in my costume jewellery collection.
  • A hot glue gun and a few glue sticks

Instructions:

First, start by placing a small dollop of hot glue on the top, centre of your headband and carefully drop down your first bead. I like to start with my largest bead to centre the project, and just build from there.

Start gluing beads to the top of your headband in the same method - by dropping a pea-sized amount of hot glue and quickly covering the glue with beads.

Be very careful when you drop the beads down onto the hot glue - you don't want to burn yourself.

Continue placing down hot glue and covering it with beads until you have covered one entire side of your headband. I don't typically had a set plan when placing down the beads; I like to see what pattern the headband naturally starts to take on as I work - this makes every jeweled headband that you make completely unique!

Once you have completed one side, start on the other side of your jeweled headband using exactly the same method.

There you have it - a super easy, affordable jeweled headband that is made form your old costume jewellery. Go ahead and try it yourself, and create your own completely unique statement piece that's perfect for any holiday outfit!
