3 Easy Style Tips for Patterned Shorts - 2nd Edition

Last week I posted 3 style tips for wearing patterned shorts with a pair of neutral patterned shorts. I promised a follow up with more colorful shorts, and here it is!
I chose a pair with a busy print because, believe it or not, it's actually easier to mix and match. It goes with more colors! These are the same broken down principles from the first post put into action with a second pair of shorts.

I stuck to looks that were along the lines of casual to sort-of-dressed-up, but keep in mind you can apply these tips with any type of top. If your style is more preppy, use a silky button up blouse with any of the tips. If it's more boho, go for a flowier tank with a more laid back vibe.

All items are under $30, except for the cognac tote which is $48.

1a. Solid Neutral Tee Whether it's navy, white, grey, tan, or black, any neutral tee would go well with a pair of colorful patterned shorts. I added a pop of color in the shoes, but of course you can go with neutral shoes as well. Sneakers would also look pretty cute! I kept the vibe casual with a fantastic tote that Fran linked to. Best part is that it's reversible with black on the other side!

1b. Solid Neutral Blouse
This is a little dressier, but here you could do a blouse with any type of silhouette to make it casual, a dressed up work look if shorts are appropriate at your job, or a look for going out.

2. Use a Color From the Shorts Since there are so many colors in this pair of shorts, there are a ton of options. Pinks, corals, maybe even red, greens, or light blue. It's a super easy way to figure out what to pair with pieces with lots of colors.
This look is very easy to wear, but because the top has details like buttons, pockets, and somewhat of a structure to its silhouette, it looks very put together. But something like this would be totally comfy to hang out in for the rest of the summer!

3. Use a Contrasting Color This pair of shorts has so many colors that it was kind of hard to find one that was contrasting! But, yellow combats the blues and corals that are prominent. If you're working with a coral pair, try a bright green like I did in last summer's 7x7 remix. If you've got a blue-based pair, try red or pink too! (Depends on the shade of blue...)
For this look I found an awesome yellow blouse that's on sale for $10! If you don't think yellow looks good on you, it comes in white too. I chose sandals with a teensy bit of color for a fun but subtle twist to the outfit. If you want a dressier shoe to wear this outfit for a night out, try these chestnut, kind of orangey heels.
