What I am reading now

This weekend I unplugged (with the exception of my Kindle) and didn’t do a damn thing. I have been working almost every day, even on the weekends I power up the laptop and go through my emails and answer questions about design. But, not this weekend. This weekend I made a point to just relax and do ‘me’ stuff.

I took my daughter to the movies and we saw Lucy. Which was good, but felt more like a science lesson than a movie. Did you know we only use 10% of our brain? Or is it 35%?

Let me just say that I have been reading this series that has started pissing me off in the worst way. First of all, the author recaps all of the previous books in the current book, which wouldn’t be so bad – they all do it, but she is doing it with not just an appropriately placed paragraph here and there citing little bits of pertinent information, but with whole pages and pages of verbatim from all of the previous books. I have never skimmed so much in my life. Each new book is only 65% new and while I love the characters in the series, I think I’m quitting the nonsense. So, I’m temporarily ditching my usual supernatural genre and diving in to some of the popular books out there.

Oh, and I now quit books immediately upon reading about lip biting. Because seriously.

All right, on to the better stuff! Saturday I read The Vacationers by Emma Straub. Excellent read and perfect for the summer. The Post family takes you on vacation with them to the Balearic island of Mallorca and I just want to be there to lay out by the pool, go to the beach & small town, and eat Franny Post’s food.

Sunday I read If I Stay by Gayle Forman. And, Sunday night I downloaded the sequel Where She Went. If I Stay is a trailer we saw while waiting for the movie Lucy to start… so, being as susceptible to the power of suggestion that I am I went home and added it to my list to read. And, let me just say that I’m glad that there was a sequel because the ending was just too soon! Too soon! If I Stay is told from Mia’s point of view and Where She Went is told from Adam’s point of view – which I think is great, it’s nice to have a different perspective. I’m only a few chapters in, but I’m rooting for these two.

I also downloaded Friendship: A Novel by Emily Gould and Landline by Rainbow Rowell.

What are you reading this summer?
