{DIY} Gold Splatter Box

I'm so glad you guys were excited about the new website, thredUP, I shared with you yesterday! I've got my Clean Out bag on the way, and I ordered some J.Crew and Gap dresses and skirt...all for less than $50! I'll be sure to let you know how the whole experience goes once I receive everything.

Today I've got my favorite kind of project for you...quick, easy and cheap. I stalk Furbish Studio like it's my job...I just love their eclectic mix of decor and accessories, and especially love peeks into the store they share on InstaGram. This image posted recently, and I was instantly smitten with the gold splattered box.

I scoured their site looking for it, but was unsuccessful...so I decided to make my own!
{What You Need} Clear Box (like this one, this one, or this one
) My exact box is this one, and was less than $10. TWSS Gold Nail Polish Painter's Tape

I'm not going to lie, this project is a messy one. So don't be smug and think you can do it at the table with a paper towel nearby. I decided to splatter my paint on the inside of the box so it wouldn't get worn with handling, so I covered the outside of the box and lid with painter's tape.

Then take the box outside and cover a liberal area with paper or drop cloth...just trust me on this. The splattering process isn't a delicate little tap to the side of the box, so I recommend practicing first. For the consistency of my polish, it required a good flick of the wrist while holding the brush, like I was cracking a whip. The goal is to get ropes of color, not just blobs and drips.

For the sides, turn the box, start flicking, and cross your fingers more ends up on the box than in your hair. #Ikid #kindof

Once you've taken out your frustrations on the little box, set it aside and allow it to dry.

It's difficult to see the shine and reflection in these pictures, but this is a pretty good representation. The nail polish provides a lot more sheen and reflection than just craft paint. I barely used half a bottle, so a little goes a long way.

It's such a great little styling accessory, and unexpected storage vessel. Mine currently holds a deck of cards. I think I need another one for the bathroom...maybe splattered with hot pink nail polish? What color would you use? I'm so predictable always choosing gold!
