Bavarian Mini Pretzel Recipe: Chocolate-Dipped Sparklers

Layla’s been on a roll lately with these amazing recipes, and now she’s back, this time with a Bavarian mini pretzel recipe: Chocolate-Dipped Sparklers! She made these with both Bavarian and rod-style pretzels, and they look so delicious! Wish I could get my hands on some right now!

I know I’m not the only girl in town who goes nuts when sweet things combine with salty things…it’s a slice of Heaven on Earth. These Sparklers would look amazing at any party- just get the sprinkles in whatever color matches your decorations or theme!

Okay, no more talk, only pretzels! On with the recipe!

Bavarian Mini Pretzel Recipe: Dark Chocolate and White Chocolate Dipped Sparklers

Ingredients:
-White chocolate chips
-Dark (or milk) chocolate chips
-Bavarian pretzels and/or pretzel rods (Caution! Try to get bags with intact pretzels- broken ones aren’t as pretty!)
-Sprinkles of all sorts and/or chopped nuts
-Optional: Food coloring (to dye the white chocolate for themed parties, etc.)

Tools:
-Microwave or glass dish/saucepan
-Wax paper
-Baking sheets

Steps:
1. Melt the chocolate:

To make delicious melting chocolate is fairly simple, but it can be scary! I guarantee you can do it! Here’s the deal… promise me and yourself that you will NOT add any ingredients to your chocolate! No water, milk, butter, oil or anything! All you need is a bag of chocolate chips! It can be as simple as throwing in a glass dish and putting in the microwave. If this is your method you want to be smart and check it every 20 seconds. I’m not joking! Don’t be lazy here and start with a minute, it can burn and get grainy and then it’s garbage. Just pop it in for 20, stir, 20, stir, 20, stir, 20 stir, 20, stir… etc., until it’s done. (Around 2-3 minutes).

For me, it’s easier and more legitimate to use the double broiler on the stovetop. You want to fill a saucepan with water, put the chocolate chips in a glass dish big enough to sit on top of the saucepan to where the water is NOT touching the bottom of the glass dish. If this is the case, pour out some water. Crank up the heat and start to stir. Don’t stop stirring and wait for those delicious chips to melt!

2. Dip the chocolate:
Try to coat the pretzel evenly and let it drip off in the bowl. For the rods I like to pour the chocolate from the bowl into a deep glass or cup instead. This will give you a deeper well of chocolate to dive into as you swirl it around it.

3. Add your sprinkles:
Douse your pretzel with a variety of fun sprinkles and/or nuts immediately after the dunk and while the pretzel is still wet or the sprinkles will not stick. Make sure to do this over a cookie sheet or this will be extra messy! I like to recycle the fallen sprinkles at the end to use on the last few pretzels- I call this my “leftover pretzel.” It may not look the greatest being coated in a mish mash of different sprinkles, but it always gets the most and so that’d be one I’d pick!

4. Be patient and let them rest:
This is where you let the chocolate get hard. If you want to rush the process, you can pop them in the freezer for a ½ hour to an hour.

5. Serve them:
When you are ready to serve them, display the rods upright in a beautiful glass and let guests pick their favorite! Lay the Bavarians in a cute arrangement of black and then whites. These are beautifully fancy and are sure to be a hit with guests!

I felt like a real chocolatier making these and my daughters were so tickled watching me! My little 2 year old referred to the rods as ‘popsicles’ and loved the pink sprinkles. These are such an easy yet classy treat for any party or gift! Enjoy your pretzel Sparklers and have a blast!
