Spring / Summer 2015 | Fashion Week Highlights
Fashion week season last month was quite exciting, and refreshing. I feel like fashion has been stuck in a rut over the last 2-3 seasons and finally I feel like we're moving in a new direction - and ready to. I'm a 90's grunge lover as much as the next gal and I adore nothing more than battered denim and tacky accessories BUT after what seems like at least two years of us all reminiscing for our childhood decade, I think it's safe to say we've all had enough of jelly shoes and "soft pastel grunge" (what even is that) for now.
Autumn/ Winter 2014 is currently swimming in 1960's inspired pieces and naturally next season is moving an era up to the mustard-tinted and floral 1970's. Alongside 1970's bohemia (Marchesa, Emilio Pucci), we're seeing the consistent and forever-inspiring minimalistic and futuristic designs take us forward to new palettes and cuts (Loewe). I personally love nostalgic throwbacks to eras long gone but there's nothing more exciting than seeing that gear apace with what the new millennia brings. Spring/ Summer 2015 summed up? Think Bianca Jagger meets your average Stockholm street style fashionista.
Saint Laurent and Moschino deserve a special mention too, of course, both being two of my favourite brands of all time: Hedi Slimane kept my current favourite fashion house true to its rock chick aesthetic but mixed things up by throwing in some bright colours and psychedelic prints (again, 60's-early 70's inspired). I particularly love the zipped leather mini (pictured above) and it's quite nice to see everyone's favourite camouflage army jacket teamed up with a floral dress underneath - who'd have thought they'd go so well?
Moschino on the other hand, was completely in a league of its own, as per usual. Jeremy Scott yet again sent a frenzy down the catwalk; this time swapping Happy Meals for Barbie. I'm the first to admit that I pretty much detest the colour pink most of the time and generically "girlie" clothing, however, this collection was genius! I adored the logo-adorned two-pieces (I'll have the black versions, please and thank you), the oversized sweaters, the hilariously ridiculous phone cases and the OTT 80's dresses. Who knew pink leather could look so good?
