Casey Leigh Wiegand

that first day.

My baby's second birthday happened to fall on the same day as my oldest's first day of kindergarten. There were tears over the peanut butter jar early in the morning as I prepared that first lunch. The floods of thoughts and feelings that rushed through me like a tornado of emotion.
Just like my heart knew he would, he adored it. He is obsessed with his school and teacher and I can already see his little spirit soaring. All I could ever hope or dream of for him on his first day. This is one of those big milestones. First day of kinder, first day of college, wedding day. Few are as monumental and emotional as this one, so I soaked it in like a sponge. My little heartbeat that walks around outside of me was ready to face the world alone. My heart waged war for those open hands and I didn't clench, I let them free and watched him fly.
I climbed back into the car, stared at that empty carseat and let the tears fall. My baby is growing up.
Here are a few photos from that first day.
