High Five Friday – California Edition

Happy Friday from San Francisco friends!

We’ve been out here for about a week, visiting family and friends and running all around the city and the Bay Area.

T-Minus 2 days until the SF Half Marathon! I’m running the 1st Half Marathon which means that I get to run along the Embarcadero through Fisherman’s Wharf, across the Golden Gate Bridge (and back), through the Presidio and into Golden Gate Park to finish.

While it’s a scenic run, it’s also a hilly one. I watched a course preview and let’s just say that the commentator kept saying things like “climb” and “rolling hills.”

On a positive note, it is lovely running in San Francisco. The weather has been perfect i.e. zero humidity. What a pleasant change from the swampy mess back home in New York! I’ve mostly let go of my negative thoughts and I don’t really have any expectations going into the race. That sounds bad but I don’t mean to say that I don’t expect to run my best. I mean that I don’t have any time expectations because I don’t know what to expect from the course. I plan on running based on how I feel Sunday morning and go from there, yes?

Five Photos {PS are you following me on Instagram? Please do!}

  1. View of downtown San Francisco, the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge from the Berkeley Hills. Absolutely gorgeous evening.
  2. Foggy morning and the Golden Gate Bridge as seen on my run this week.
  3. Baby Grasshopper in the California sun. Photo courtesy of my mom.
  4. Sculpture. Bay Bridge. Revolved Chair pose. This is a new sculpture is along the Embarcadero near the Ferry Building. At least it’s new to me since the last time we visited. At night, the sculpture lights up in colored lights.
  5. Evening view of San Francisco as seen from the car as we were driving across the Bay Bridge.

Five Good Reads

  1. How to be prepared for anything: Love this post from Zen Habits. He outlines a survival kit for living. You might find surprising some of the skills he describes.
  2. If Not Now. I’ve been reading a bunch of articles and posts about living authentically and moving past fear to tackle your dreams and goals (ahem Golden Gate Bridge). This was a great post, especially this: “I just want to be me, regardless of whether I have permission, regardless of whether I’m ready. If not me, who? If not now, when?”
  3. I had to stop yelling: This piece from Val at BonBon Break kind of hit close to home. I yell. More than I would like to admit. It’s something that I know that I need to work on.
  4. 7 Reasons Yoga Girls Are The Most Terrifying People At The Gym. This is hilarious and so true, especially 1, 5 and 7.
  5. What’s Your Actual #1 Priority? (hint: a priority isn’t a priority if you have 50 of them): And that’s the truth.

How has your week been? Are you running the SF Marathon?
