Sew Sweet Handmade Clothes For Girls: Pattern Book Giveaway

Recently I was sent a copy of Sew Sweet Handmade Clothes For Girls written by the Japanese kids designer Yuki Araki to review and do a giveaway for. I loved this pattern book because you can make a whole season’s wardrobe for your little girls from the patterns included.

This book has 22 designs you can make for little girls as well as two matching top patterns for moms…A perfect spring wardrobe. It’s never too early to start planning ahead!
I enjoyed reading Yuki’s thoughts on sewing and designing for her own girls.

I decided to make a dress from the book. Pictured above is a version of the dress without sleeves in pink linen. Perfect.

I am so in love with that blue cotton linen fabric with the linen placket and collar. I decide to make my own version…..

My dress turned out a little funny. I didn’t notice the pattern said to cut the placket on the fold so I ended up with a really skinny placket. If you look at the pretty pink placket in the dress from the book, you’ll see it’s a lot wider. The paisley doesn’t quite go with the feel of this design either, and the piping doesn’t really work. Gigi asked if it could be her “home dress” since she doesn’t really like the fabric. I should have stuck with the types of fabrics Yuki chose for the designs. Oh well!

The instructions for sewing are very good as you can see from the placket instructions, and I like the book a lot. There are also very good diagrams….
