Hot Head Deep Conditioning Cap Review + Giveaway

I’ve know about the Hot Head Deep Conditioning Cap for quite some time, I remember Jeni of Just Grow Already posting first her interest in the item and later a full review. As a long time follower of Jeni, I’ve noticed through her wash day updates that she frequently uses her Hot Head Deep Conditioning Cap and it seems to have withstood the test of time quite well for her. However, because I have a full sized professional hooded dryer, an electric heating cap and at one point a hair steamer I could not justify purchasing a cordless conditioning cap (despite how badly I wanted one).

Recently Thermal Hair Care asked if I’d like to review their product and I was too excited! I literally did a little jig on my couch! I don’t want to bore you with my own obsession with all things hair, so I’ll go ahead and proceed with the review!

What is Hot Head Deep Conditioning Cap?
Hot Head is a unique microwavable deep conditioning heat cap created by a professional hair stylist. It offers an easy and stylish way to achieve the results of a salon quality conditioning treatment at home.

What are the advantages versus other forms of deep conditioning?
I always believe heat is necessary to most effectively deep condition, opening the cuticle and allowing the product to penetrate to nourish, moisturize and repair. However, when using either a hooded dryer, electric heat cap or steamer your movements are limited to one spot or area. If you are short on time, this restriction can tempt you to skip using heat or even worse deep conditioning altogether. The Hot Head Deep Conditioning Cap does not require a plug so you are free to move about and accomplish other tasks while taking care of your hair, stylishly as the cap is available in a variety of reversible colors and patterns.

How does it work?
The Hot Head deep conditioning cap is filled with renewable flax seed which will generate heat when warmed. With just a minute or two in the microwave it will produce up to 45 minutes of heat.

How was MY experience?
I warmed my cap in the microwave for 2 minutes, flipping the cap inside out at the one minute mark per the instructions. My microwave is 900 watts so I felt another 30 seconds was necessary. The cap felt hot but not unbearably so. I’d already applied my deep conditioner and clipped the length of my hair to the top of my head. So after removing from the microwave, I covered my hair with a plastic cap then followed with the Hot Head deep conditioning cap. The warmth lasted approximately 20 minutes minutes, plenty of time for an effective deep condition. At first I felt the majority of the warmth was concentrated near the top of my head but when I removed the cap, all of my hair felt warm – not just the top but front, back and sides.

I highly recommend Hot Head! It is great for those with limited space and for travel. I loved being able to move about freely plus its circular design is SO much better at evenly distributing heat to my hair than my conical electric heating cap. I think Hot Head is probably superior to the other cordless heat cap (Thermal) for the same reason plus it has elastic around the edges making it fit better. Lastly, I appreciated the terry cloth design because it prevented water and product from running down my face as it does when deep conditioning with a steamer, electric cap or hooded dryer.
